"Bye Mami, we love you!" My brother and I exclaimed in unison as we said our goodbyes to our mother and stepfather, Gabriel. I stood there in awe, watching my parents disappear into the crowded airport, anxiously rubbing the amulet my biological father had given me before his passing. I missed him so much. It had been seven years, but the grief still felt brand new.

Luke seemed to grasp onto my emotions quickly. I noticed this when he took me by the arm and walked me to the car without speaking a word. It was out of the ordinary for him to let his hurt become visible. Once we settled in the car he let out a defeated sigh and brought his face down to the horn while his arms rested on the steering wheel. "I don't understand how she can just forget about Dad and be so in love with that fucker just because he's rich..."

My hands rubbed his back in a comforting manner, trying to ease his pain. I don't agree with him to a full extent but I can see where his head is at. He's so much more hurt than I am, I feel really bad. He quickly lifted his body and ran his hand through the light brown ends coming from his dark-rooted hair, revealing the tattoo that came down from behind his ear onto his neck. A tribute to our father. At least that's what he tells me it is.

After collecting ourselves, we headed back home to relax. When we pulled into the garage, it was as if a switch flipped in his brain. He pulled his cell phone out and called the boys. "Yo, you guys wanna hoop with me soon?" Marco and Caleb swore to be here in fifteen minutes. This meant I was going to be left alone for the rest of the day, thank god.

The house was so silent and peaceful, leaving me to wander inside my mind. Memories of my childhood flooded my mind. I can never come to terms with the fact that I allowed myself to get bullied in middle school. It wasn't even by other girls. Regret lingers in my mind to this day; I should've stood up for myself. My dad didn't make it long enough to experience my preteen years so it was always mom telling me, "They like you Mijita, that's what little boys do." Yeah, I don't think so, Mami. These guys were devil spawns, every last one of them. I'm not completely a victim, I'll admit it, but they were completely unhinged.

A sudden vigorous vibration snapped me out of my daze. My phone lit up showing the name of one of my best friends, Brandon. He's the first friend I've made since moving here to start high school. My finger slid the call button to the right and put it on speakerphone. "Meet me at our spot?"

"Bet that" I eagerly grabbed my skateboard and backpack full of protection. My board is inspired by Langa's board in Sk8 the Infinity; I couldn't find anyone who'd make it so I had to do it myself. I snuck out behind the house and took the back roads to meet Brandon at an abandoned skatepark we've been harboring for the past two years.

Once I got there, he was already practicing without me. "You're late, did you take the back roads again?" I nodded and he shook his head in disapproval. I rolled my eyes as I geared up to join him on the ramp. When I first started learning, going down the ramp felt like I could fall and lose a tooth at any time, but now, it's just light work. Brandon's been in the game longer than I have, he's aiming for pros after we graduate.

He was a veteran in this field of work. His flips were flawless and every trick looked as if it took no effort to accomplish. His dark brown hair and his red and black flannel were paid actors; they flowed in the wind perfectly, making his exhibition more fascinating. On the other hand, I did fairly well. Of course, I have all the basics down and perfected, but there's still room for improvement.

I took a deep breath before leaning into the dip and letting my board guide me while still keeping my balance. The cool wind was peacefully blowing in my face, I felt content. Getting close to arriving on the other side of the half-pipe, I prepared to Rock to Fakie. A good amount of those and my time was cut short by the overwhelming ring of an alarm going off on my Apple watch. "Oh shit! Brandon, my race starts in 15 minutes!"
