It's the last day of our suspenseful vacation. The girls and I are in Jaleigha's room getting ready for the party tonight. Regrettingly, I offered to straighten Marlow's hair. She's never done it before and she wants to impress Luke with an unexpected change. I underestimated how difficult and time-consuming it would be. Marlow how very fucking long luscious curly hair. Long might be an understatement.

I sat on the edge of the bed while she sat in a chair in front of me. She blew her hair out herself to make it easier on me. The slight smoke rising from the flat iron, due to the heat protectant oil I put in her hair, worried her. "Don't worry, it's because of the oil, not your hair," I reassured her.

Jaleigha was freshening up her blonde boho braids before pulling out a miniature suitcase full of makeup. "You want to look glamorous Marley?" She hesitated at the question. A girl like Marlow didn't need makeup, not the slightest bit. Her skin was clear and flawless. Hyperpigmentation never had a fighting chance with her.

"She only needs lashes and lip gloss, Ja. Start doing your own face so we make sure we get out on time."

"Right. I've got a certain girl to meet~!" She squeals with excitement.

I part through Marlow's hair to release the fourth row of hair. She's the only one who gets to relax during all this. Her hazelnut-toned hand reaches up to hand me a cheese doodle and I happily accept it with my mouth. She raises my ice water cup for me to sip before returning my attention to her hair.

~~~
Two hours have passed and I'm on the last strands of hair. I've never felt more relieved. Marlow ran to the bathroom mirror running her fingers through her newly silky hair. It ran past her ass to her thighs.
I stand up, stretch my body, and pull my dress out of my bag. It'll be night and the weather will cool so I can wear tights. The dress fits perfectly, the same as when I first tried it on. I put on the jewelry I bought and instantly felt like money.
Of course, I couldn't forget my amulet. I had taken it out of the box this morning and safely placed it in my bag.
Marlow walked out of the bathroom in a deep red silk dress that ended above the knee. She had parted her hair into a complimenting left side part and did her edges accordingly. Zircon earrings in every ear hole she had and silver bracelets clung together on her wrist. "You look so good!!!" Jaleigha and I sync together.
She gets shy and covers her mouth. Jaleigha rummages through her purse. "You don't even need lashes, come here put some lip gloss on, baby."
Ja sneaks into the bathroom briefly to slip on her baby pink dress. It compliments her hair. Unlike Marlow and I, Ja wears gold jewelry.
The three of us look so dead gorgeous. We take a group picture but keep it in our photos on hold because we don't want our dates' first looks to be on social media. I Facetime my unofficial boyfriend who's supposed to be with the other guys. "HarleQuinn" His voice is soft and his smile is so warm that I feel comforted through the phone.
"Are you guys ready to meet up? The party starts in 30 minutes." My forehead is the only thing visible to him.
He checks in with the rest of them before giving me an answer. "We've been ready for hours, they've just been drinking the whole time. I haven't, 'cause I have big plans tonight."
I look at the girls to see if they're ready, they are. "Okay, we'll meet you at the beach."
When we get there, Jaleigha instantly sees her date. The two girls disappear to get drinks and probably make out. Marlow stays with me until my brother comes to pick her up. I'm all alone, no sign of Skyler. I'm starting to get embarrassed to be standing here by myself.
