Clarisse was bored. There were no new campers to beat up and nobody to spar with. Maybe she could hang with Silena. She went to look for the daughter of Aphrodite.
"Oh, hey Clarisse! What's up?" Silena asked, putting away her compact mirror. Clarisse blew her long, stringy hair out of her face.
"I'm bored. Spar with me." Clarisse said, already knowing Silena's answer.
"Sorry, not really my thing." Silena apologised. Clarisse groaned inwardly. She knew there was nothing she could do to get that girl to spar. She slumped down next to Silena on the log she was sitting on.
"But," Silena started. Clarisse's eyes lit up. Maybe Silena would agree to spar with her! Or at least train.
"We could always go tease that Chris guy..."
Clarisse stared at Silena, trying to figure out if she was kidding or not. Silena Beaurgard. Suggesting to tease a 'cute boy'. Sure, her siblings would do that, totally. But Silena wasn't that kind of person. So what...?
Noticing Clarisse's blank expression, Silena laughed.
"Please, I'm not as shallow as some of my siblings. It's just that...that guy, Chris? He's a bit... how do you say it? Dense, and that's putting it mildly. It's funny to slander him. I mean, you've been hinting at him for the longest time, and you're still not together. Bet he doesn't even notice your hints." She muttered the last two sentences.
Clarisse sighed. It wasn't like she had anything else to do.
"Fine. You're lucky I like slandering that guy."
Silena giggled.
"It's almost like your love language."
Clarisse punched Silena in the arm jokingly, laughter filling the air.
After a few minutes of searching, Chris was spotted.
"What in Hades is he doing?" Clarisse asked incredulously.
Chris was in a bush, his butt sticking out. He struggled for awhile, before pulling himself out, gripping a volleyball. His face was red and he was covered in sticks and leaves all over.
"Aren't you glad you're in love with this cutie?" Silena snickered. Clarisse's face heated up.
"I hate you."
"No you don't. You love me."
"I do not."
"I'll charm you, then." Silena quipped with a wink. Her eyes turned towards the front again.
"Oh, look. He's in another bush."
Clarisse turned her head. True enough, Chris was in yet another bush. He emerged muddy and his hair a mess. To put it simply, he looked like a mess.
Clarisse couldn't take it anymore. It was too stupid, too ridiculous. She burst out laughing and doubled over. Her laughter infected Silena, and soon, both of them had tears rolling down their cheeks. They couldn't stop laughing as Chris moved on from one stupid thing to another.
"H-help-" Clarisse wheezed. Chris was a lovable guy, just a big dummy.
"So, that's the guy you love, huh?"
"You're lucky I like you, or you'd be staring down the wrong end of Maimer right about now."
"Your threats don't work on me anymore."
"Dang it."
