The sun shone brightly as Finnick and I sat on the shore, tying a net in the hot sun. Welcome to District 4, where even if you won the Hunger Games, you still have to work. My older brother had won the Hunger Games six years ago, when he was 14. He still worked with us, fishing and making nets five years later, as a strong 20 year old. I was his 13 year old baby sister, with his green eyes, beautifully tanned skin, and a darker version of his hair. The Capitol called him a beautiful boy and I was his amazing little sister. He sighed when he saw a girl with sea green eyes and dark hair walking along the shore towards us.

"Finnick, it's Annie."

Annie had won the Hunger Games last year, but had gone crazy when the boy tribute had died. Finnick felt protective of her, almost like she was his life. Finnick dropped the net and ran over to her. He hugged her and asked how she was doing as I continued working on the net. I didn't even hear the footsteps behind me before I was pulled away from my work and spun around.

"What do you want idiot."I asked Nate, the tall boy with brown hair and eyes that were unusual here in 4.

He flashed a menacing smile and was about to speak when two girls came running over.

"Jillian!" They called to me.

"Karen, Meghan what are you guys doing here?" I said, running into a group hug.

They both had long brown hair and brown eyes, and never hung around when Finnick was here.

"We wanted to have some fun before the reaping tomorrow, and they let us because of Finnick."

I nodded happily as we sat down in the sand, all four of us working on the net. An edge was taken by each, when a short, blond boy with light green eyes came up to help.

"Hey Etheana." Karen called from the other side of Meg.

He glared at her and sat down.

"Ready for the Hunger Games?" He growled, his voice full of hatred for the Capitol.

"Oh of course! And because my brother was so great, they expect the same from me. So I have a great chance of going to the Hunger Games, even if we all are 13."

I said sarcastically. We all had our names in twice, but my brother going in after my eldest brother had won a few years before proved that it was rigged. Ethan rolled his eyes and kept working on the net.

"So unfair." He muttered.

We finished the net an hour later, with the help of Finnick.

"All members of District 4 report back home." The Peacekeepers went around, calling through the loudspeakers.

"Quitting time." Finnick sang as we walked home.

The others had already left, and it was just us.

"No matter what, remember this, if you get chosen, remember if I survived, so can you, Jillian." Finnick said softly, fear in his eyes and in mine as I wondered the possibilities. Of all the people in our District, why did he believe it would be me?
