Love is a strange thing

That can't be her.

I stared at the girl across the room. Her baby blue eyes shone so brightly. The button nose that twitches ever so slightly. Her signature smirk always got into trouble as well as the brushed up blonde hair that was so easy to mess with.

That was her... but it couldn't be... because she died long ago.

I was so stuck in my thoughts that I hadn't realized that Joey was practically wailing his arms to get my attention.

"Where were you drift off to this time, Anna?" He asked me finally getting my attention. "Maybe, you'll reach the depths of the Mariana Trench one day."

We both laughed at his joke. My thoughts had always filled me and there were times I would just stop talking and go silent. Our friends got used to it and teased me about it of course.

"Hey Joey, can I ask you something?" I asked when we both calmed down.

"Shoot," Joey said as he took a sip of his drink.

"Do you think you could ever love someone else who looked exactly like someone you loved in the past?" I asked him hurriedly.

"Woah, Woah, Woah." He tried to slow me down. "First of all where did this come from?"

"I don't know..." I told him uncertainly. I couldn't exactly tell him about her lookalike.

"Hmmm..." He hummed as if not believing me but he still answered my question. "But if it were me, I would say yeah."

I looked up at him with curiosity. I didn't expect that answer from him. Joey had always believed in the one. That, in our lifetime there was only one person meant to complete our life. So hearing him say yes to loving someone new was unexpected.

"Love is a strange thing," He started off. "You can't dictate what happens but you just have to trust in it. Whether you fall in love at first glance or make a connection before loving them. It makes you stupidly courageous yet timid and shy at the same time. It's confusing but worth everything."

"How do you know it'll be worth it?" I asked him still unsure.

She had been my everything and it's been a few years now but I couldn't just replace her. Especially with the same face, that would be just like adding salt to the wound. How can I be so sure that it would be okay?

"You just have to trust that love will show you the way," Joesy responded as if reading my thoughts. "Love is about trust in the other while keeping the trust in yourself because if you can't trust yourself to love someone then no one can trust you to fall in love."

"You didn't need to get all serious you know," I told him as I played with my drink. "But thanks for the insight."

"Of course little one," Joey answered me back as I drowned back in my thoughts.

This was strange. I had read somewhere that doppelgangers existed but I never thought I'd find one that looked like her.

Could I actually love someone that looks just like her? How am I supposed to when everytime I'll look at them all I see is her face.

I can't just put myself through that right? Not only would it torture me but them as well.

I just shouldn't right?

"Why'd you ask anyways?" Joey asked after a while bringing me out of my thoughts.

"..." I couldn't answer him. Her death affected everyone.

Joey was getting annoyed at this point and turned to where I was looking since I wasn't looking him in the eye. He saw the girl that looked exactly like her and in his shock spit out his drink. It went everywhere. I tried my best to help him clean up and saw that everyone's attention was on us. This was embarrassing.

I dragged Joey to the bathroom and told him to clean himself up. I waited outside for him when the girl came up to me.

"Hi, I saw what happened. Is your friend okay?" She asked me. "I'm Emma."

It's not her..... But maybe that's a good thing.

"Yeah we were just talking and something I said blew his mind and well you saw his reaction." I lied. What? I couldn't exactly tell her that we were talking about her looks. That would be creepy.

"Oh, well, I hope he's okay then," Emma said as she began to walk away.

"Wait," I don't know what came over me but I held her back. "I'm Anna, by the way."

She smiled back at me. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Anna," Emma said as slipped me something before she walked away.

I looked at what she left me. It had her number on it and a little note.

'I saw you staring, and I thought you were cute. Mind calling me sometimes? XOXO Emma.'

I looked back up and saw her just about she was gonna leave. We locked eyes and she winked at me before doing a sign to call her.

Emma was different. She was bold and confident, something I had never seen before. I would never forget my first love though, seeing as Emma had her face, but I just need to see where this would go.

I need to trust that love had plans for me.
