It was a regular day at Mid-Wilshire Police Station. Everyone was in the room for roll call. Grey, alongside with Tim, gave the run down of the agenda for the day. At the end, as always, he told everyone to be safe. As everyone was walking out to go on about their assignments, Grey called out "Officer Chen, stay back a minute. I need a word."
Lucy nodded her head and walked back to the front of the room towards Grey and Tim and said "Yes sir?"
"I wanted to talk to you about a special assignment."
To both of their surprise, Tim and Lucy asked simultaneously "Special assignment?"
"Yes, a special assignment."
"Okay." Lucy replied somewhat uneasy.
"You have been requested to take a special undercover mission. Some of the higher ups saw how you handled Soto and La Fiera and think that you're ready for more."
Lucy takes a second to look at Tim only to see how tight he has his hand on his belt and his jaw so clenched he would've been able to break a tooth. She then looked back to Grey and asked "Do you know how long I'll be under for?"
"No. It could be weeks. Maybe months. There's a possibility of even a year."
The amount of tension that entered the room when he said years. That's a long time. Anything could happen in a year. Lucy sat there pondering as the conversation advanced knowing that Tim kind of detested the fact that she was so into being undercover. He didn't like the fact that she was willingly putting herself in heightened amounts of danger, like she wasn't a police officer to begin with.
"What is the mission about?" Lucy asked.
"There's group of drug lords that have just entered the US, but they are making their home base right here and California. The DEA reached out because we're the home front station and they want to hit the ground running. They've had their eyes on this crew for a while now because they're responsible for over 78% of the drugs that come through California to be distributed elsewhere. We need to jump on this quickly before it gets even more out of hand."
Lucy looked down at her feet and started gnawing at the inside of her cheek. She then looked up and asked "How long do I have to think and make a decision?"
"48 hours. We need to be quick about this. It's high stakes so there isn't much time." Grey replied affirmatively.
"Okay, I'll get back to you in 48 hours. Thank you." Lucy said as she turned to walk out the room to get her shift started.
As she was walking out of the room, Tim said "Lucy?"
She turned around and said "What's up Tim?"
"Are you thinking about taking the undercover mission?" Tim asked in a concerned tone.
"Actually, I am. You know how much I love being a UC!"
"Unfortunately I do" Tim said with a hint of attitude.
Lucy rolled her eyes. She knew where this conversation was about to go and she didn't like it. She didn't like arguing with Tim about the direction her career was going nor did she want to. She knew that he was just trying to look out for her, but Lucy also knew she needed to find a footing of her own. Tim had already found his place in the station, now it was time for Lucy to find hers.
