2: Tim, I'm GoingAfter the comment that Tim had just made, Lucy had no desire to finish the conversation. So, she ended it before it really got started. She walked away and proceeded to go get the war bags for the shop so they could both get their day started. Tim called after Lucy, "Lucy, stop. We need to talk about this."
"Actually Tim, we don't and even if we did, it wouldn't be right now; so, drop it." She replied with a snarky tone.
It was in that moment that he had to accept that Lucy wasn't going to budge, and she was serious about not talking about it right now. He knew that they would have a conversation before she told Grey her final decision. But, if Lucy wasn't going to talk to him right now, he knew someone who would.
Tim started walking towards Grey's office when he called out to Lucy again, "Chen, wait in the shop for me. I need to talk to Grey."
Lucy gave a nod and continued to do what she was already doing. Tim knocked on Grey's door and he waved him in. Greeting him with a smile, "What can I do for you Tim?"
"I just have one question." Tim replied quickly.
"Which is?"
"Why didn't I know that there was a chance for Lucy to go undercover?" He asked in a serious tone.
In that moment, Grey knew where this conversation was headed. "The higher ups just called me this morning to let me know. Given how high the stakes are with this case, I figured that I would waste no time presenting it to Lucy. She needed to know as soon as possible, so she could make the best decision possible. Is there a problem"
"Don't you think that I needed to know?"
"Tim you're not her TO anymore. Assignments that are for her don't need your approval anymore. So, no I didn't think to let you know because I don't need your approval and neither does, she. Plus, we all know that Officer Chen would have shared it with you anymore."
Hearing that Lucy's assignments didn't need his approval anymore somewhat stung. Even though he already knew this information, it didn't change the fact that it hurt here. He may not be her TO anymore, but she was his partner, so he felt like he had a right to know. But not wavering, he responded, "Look Grey, with all due respect anything that concerns Lucy concerns me because she's, my partner. Not only that, but I'm a sergeant too. I didn't even know there was a call."
"Yes, you're correct. You're a sergeant as well, but this is my station. If I want to make a certain call for one of my officers, I'm allowed to do so."
The anger in Tim started to rise, so instead of continuing this the conversation; he stormed out of Grey's office without warning. He walked to the shop when he noticed Lucy was standing outside, waiting for him. When she saw him, she smiled her Lucy smile and asked, "Hey Tim, is everything okay?"
"Just get in. We have work to do." He replied sharply.
"Okay then. Sorry for trying to make sure that you were okay. It won't happen again." Lucy said with a dampened spirit.
Tim looked at her with sorrow in his eyes, but he didn't dare say anything. They just got to work.
Driving around in the shop, the silence was deafening. Knowing how much Lucy loved to talk, this was killing her, but she stayed quiet. The only they spoke to one another was when a call came through and they were responding or trying to figure out the best solution for the case.
The day went by fairly quickly. Both Tim and Lucy were happy for that because the silence in the shop was uncomfortable. It didn't provide the comfort it usually does. All the calls were relatively tame with the exception of a few. The two returned to the station, left the shop, and went their separate ways without saying a word to one another.
