After graduation was over I said my goodbyes to Slinca and we hugged. This was probably the last time I was gonna see her. As she walked out the door I thought about the times we had together.
I remember this one time where this kid in our self-defense class was bragging about how he was the best fighter. Everyone in the class knew he was just bluffing but never actually challenged him because they didn't want to fuel his ego. Then, Slinca challenged him one day to a fight after school. Everyone around the school was excited for the fight and right after school ended they went to the spot where the fight was gonna happen. In an alleyway not too far from the school. I swear the whole school was there as they formed a circle around Slinca and that kid.
As soon as the fight started it ended. The kid rushed at her and she punched him in the face so hard she broke his nose. Everyone was shocked, to say the least. As they dispersed because Slinca kept yelling. "Who's next!"
After everyone dispersed I was the only one there left standing as Slinca sat down and leaned against the wall. The kid got up and ran all the way back to his house. I approached Slinca and I noticed something was off. She was crying? That was the first time I'd ever seen her cry.
"What's wrong?" I asked as I kneeled down to her level.
"Lee." She whimpered. "Why is everyone always afraid of me?"
I couldn't really respond to that, I've always been at a loss for words when it came to deep personal stuff. But this time I had a response.
"It's not your fault if that's what you're thinking. People at our school don't really get how the world works and aren't ready for the violence of it. Unlike you," I consoled
She looked up and pulled her hair out of her face and I saw her teary eyes look up at me.
"Is that true?" She puled
"Yes!" I said without any hesitation. "Because if everyone was scared of you, I wouldn't be your friend now wouldn't i?" My words made Slinca get up and wipe the tears from her face and hugged me tightly.
"Thank you!" Slinca wept. "Thank you so much!"
I hugged back. Thinking to myself that I was so thankful to have a friend like her. And to have helped her in her time of need.
