"Boss will be in here soon," the guard that crushed the microphone spoke, and I prayed that Clay would be able to find me even when unable to speak with me.

The only thing that kept my anxiety lower than it could be, was knowing that Griffin and Arya were just outside, but that doesn't mean they could succeed in getting in. I exhaled a large breath. "One of you go tell him there's been an intruder," the guard turned his head to me, "He'll be the one to want to do the torturing." I sent him narrowed eyes.

Two guards walked out of the room side-by-side, as the one standing in front of me followed them out. Luca was the only one left until a different face walked in as well, surely here to have a second set of eyes on me.

"Mariano," a curt nod from the guard in a greeting was sent to Luca. His voice was low and almost inaudible, but I was able to make out what he'd said.

Mariano.

Luca Mariano.

Ares Mariano.

It hit me all at once. Luca is Ares' son. Everything came together in a second. The resemblance in Luca's eyes and jawline, were from his father. My father.

Shock rippled through me, along with what felt like a million questions. Twenty-one years ago, I was a child. Twenty-one years ago, my father had a son. Was it with my mother? Another woman? I'd never heard Ares speak of him. Not once.

I stared at the floor as my thoughts whirled into millions of questions and scenarios. I shifted my gaze to Luca, who was stood against the wall with his arms crossed. Now that I looked at him, I saw it more. I saw Ares, but a softer version. I saw a sweet mother with a dreadful father mixed between his features.

We couldn't have the same mother. I don't ever remember her being pregnant when I was little. She couldn't have hid it from me.

It felt like hours had passed. Hours of me in a separate world whilst everything else around me happened as they did. I lifted my head at the sound of thumps against the outside wall of the chamber. Luca's eyebrows creased, as well as the guard stood beside him.

It repeated, as well as yelling and a gunshot in the background. I sat up straight and turned my head to the two men on the left side of the room.

They opened the door, only to reveal three large men who held Clay in their hands. My eyes widened, his curly hair was messy, looking more puffed and frizzy than usual. He wore a tight, black shirt and black pants that had many pockets like the ones Luca has on. Although his chest was slightly heaving, he didn't look too angry.

When his eyes locked with mine, the corner of his lips turned up in a grin.

At his amusement, I had to trust him in believing he had a plan.
