"I'm in love with you."

My words displayed as a breath against her lips. I don't think she heard me, it was too quiet, and the gunshots that rang through the air were too loud.

I'm in love with her.

I grabbed her hand. I wasn't going to let her get shot, nor hurt. As I shifted her behind me, I looked for Griffin. "Griffin!" I called. He looked over his shoulder at me and reached into his back pocket. Tossing the pistol toward me, I caught it just in time to pull the trigger aimed at one of the guards.

"Clay," I heard Valentina behind me, her voice slightly raised so I could hear her. "I need a gun."

I clenched my jaw and shot three more men on the other side before glancing at her over my shoulder. "Just stay behind me, Valentina. This'll be over in a second." I told her.

"Valentina!" Arya yelled, calling her over.

"Don't go." I said. If she ran, someone could shoot her. We even don't know if someone had their gun aimed at Valentina right now. She could get shot in a second, I needed to stay in front of her.

"I can't stand here and do nothing, Clay," she exclaimed. My hand jolted at each shot I sent flying across the room, landing in three separate hearts. I spun around to face her, and grabbed her hand to pull her with me. Turning a corner, I made sure there wasn't anybody at the end of the hallway. "Where are we going?"

I pulled her upstairs, thankful it was empty.

It'd be safe here for her. "You're staying here," I explained, patting down my pockets in search for a knife. I pulled one out and handed it to her. "I know you can use these well, so if I find you dead, I'll kill you." She chuckled at my halfhearted joke. Although the mood was lighter, I was serious with my next words. "Don't die."

She smiled, "I won't. But that doesn't mean I'm staying up here."

"Yes, it does," I said. I grabbed her chin to kiss her, and when our lips met, I didn't want to pull away. Though, I built up enough strength and made my way back down the stairs.

Pistol aimed and trigger ready, I scoped out the hallways in search for Ares. He wasn't going to die without my bullet in his chest, and I knew that his men dragged him out of there as soon as they possibly could. Whether they were going to die or not, they were trained to protect him.

I turned a corner, though abruptly stopped my actions short. Three men stood around a body with crimson circling it. I heard wheezes of pain, though I couldn't see the person's face. As I shot one of the men, the other two instantly turned to me, but I shot them before they could do anything.

I waited a moment to let them bleed out enough before stepping into the hallway, revealing the face of the dying, gasping body.

Ares laid on the ground, his wide-eyes staring at my amused ones.
