Then, the day came when he would have his chance, a visiting noble Relur Embershadow who had deep connections to the 'Black Network' had taken a liking to Robert and paid a hefty sum to have him transported to his home in Luskan, beyond Neverwinter. Robert knew this was his moment, he knew that something would happen to open the opportunity for freedom, and from there all he must do is listen to the voices and head north. Robert, after being bathed and groomed, was shoved into a carriage with Relur. Relur's disgusting hands roamed over Robert's body throughout the journey, though Robert felt nothing, his disgust and anger being completely forced down by this new bubbling sensation of excitement and concentration to make sure that he would be prepared for when his time came. His sights were set on a higher purpose, everything else around him was like white noise. Days into the journey, and many horrid nights spent with this man, Robert saw it out of the carriage window: a ship. A vision violently played out in front of him, of Robert killing Relur, escaping the carriage and running to the ship. Robert adopted a cruel grin across his face, and before the noble could even question the odd expression Robert had pounced upon him. His thumbs drove into his eyes, as dark energy enveloped Robert passing through his thumbs and into Relur's head to which it responded by violently exploding. He lifted his hand up and outward, a bolt of energy escaping from it and destroying this carriage door. He lept from the carriage, covered in the viscera of his victim, tumbled to the ground, picked himself up and sprinted with all his might towards that ship still docked up just outside Luskan, the ship that conveniently had its departure delayed by unfriendly weather, the ship he knew would take him to where he was meant to be. With his new dark powers given to him by his patron, he knew nothing would stop him from heading north.

Robert managed to stow away on the ship, with some difficulty, cramming himself in-between boxes under tarps. Though only a few hours into his journey, he was caught after a routine sweep of the cargo they were hauling. He was brought to the captain of the ship to decide what to do with him. Robert quickly learns the name of the man responsible for the ship Captain Narburrow. Robert was no stranger to lying and manipulation to get what he wants or to get out of a difficult situation ever since he was taken into slavery, however, looking upon this captain gave him a feeling deep inside that honesty would be the best policy. Despite his better instincts, he explained his situation to the captain, and he kicked himself for it, presuming this captain may just end up inevitably bringing him back to his former controllers not wanting to create trouble with criminal syndicates. Despite his fears, the captain responded in a way that greatly surprised Robert: he offered him a place on the ship to work until they reached the Icewind Dale capital of Bryn Shander. Robert's mind raced with thoughts of how there may be a catch or some other ulterior motives but Captain Narburrow said nothing after that and just simply waited for Robert's response. Regardless of his reservations, Robert couldn't afford to pass up this opportunity to get to where his destiny is calling him and he politely accepted.
