Story; Lark: Aria accidentally channels Natasha
April, 2017
It'd been two weeks since she'd arrived at the Avengers Compound and it was all too much. The people were either too nice or they were terrified of her. The room she'd been given was bigger and more expensive than any place she'd stayed in in her whole life and she didn't like being monitored 24/7 by something she couldn't see. Stark's AI had been given very specific instructions to keep an eye on her at all times in case she needed assistance or if she tried anything, you know like trying to kill one of them. That part she couldn't blame them for, she had been sent to kill one of them before, but she was done with that part of her life now. And the freedom.. the freedom.
Well she'd never had any before, even when she was on the run she was a slave to her fear of being caught. It was hard to feel free when you were terrified every second of the day and night that you would be captured or killed. Always looking over her shoulder for either the Sparrow's to take her back to Henri or for SHIELD to lock her away or put her down for being too dangerous.
Scanning the living room to see if anyone was watching her, Aria slipped out and down one of the many long pristine hallways that led to the stairwell. She needed air and space from so many people that had up until recently been her enemies. Being quick and silent she rushes down the stairs until she's on the ground level and out one of the side doors. The moment she is, her shoulders relax as she closes her eyes and takes a deep fortifying breath of fresh warm spring air. It only lasts for a second because if she stayed put she was bound to be seen by someone who'd tattle on her and then Stark or Rogers would shepherd her back inside.
She didn't know which was worse; being back with the Sparrow's where she was also watched every moment of every day, but given some leeway to do as she wished on the grounds or here where overprotective maman one and two were constantly underfoot. Stark she sort of understood. He felt responsible for her since he'd recruited her, but Aria didn't understand why Captain Rogers had latched himself to her side. He was always asking if there was anything she needed or wanted, going out of his way to talk to her whenever he was around. He was like a little boy excited to play with a new toy. Rolling her eyes she makes her way down to the docks by the lake. (Mama)
At least Stark gave her a little space to move about, Rogers barely let her out of his sight. He always had to know what she was doing or where she was going, trying to include himself when she trained. It'd gotten so bad that yesterday she'd taken to locking herself in the weapons training room asking FRIDAY to make sure she wasn't disturbed. Aria could see that he was a kind person and was trying to welcome her, but he was just so.. She couldn't put her finger on the right word, but he was too much of whatever it was.
Hands in her pockets she crosses the manicured lawn to the pathway that leads to the lake behind the compound. She couldn't get away for long so she wasn't able to go to one of the hidey holes she'd scouted the first time she'd been here, it didn't really matter as long as no one bothered her for an hour or even just blessed five minutes. While a little too open for her tastes Aria liked it out here because it was so calming. Trekking over to brush off some stray leaves from one of the benches and sat down. If the weather was a little warmer she'd have taken her shoes off and dipped her feet in the water. Maybe in a few weeks.
