I asses myself as I stand in front of the mirror. I was too lazy for any make up so instead I simply put on individuals and some lipgloss, call it a day. There's nothing I'd like more than to sleep and do nothing, but I'm also one of those people who prefer not to stay home... for my own reasons.
I slide into a pair of flats before picking up my phone and heading down the stairs. "Cases that are yet to be solved-
I switch off the tv before sighing, "Daddy you keep forgetting to turn off the tv"
He coughs heavily before opening his eyes and sitting up, "Ain't nobody told you to turn it off"
Every single day he falls asleep with the tv on, I don't truly remember the last time he slept in his own room. I mentally roll my eyes before heading for the door, "Before you go"
I stop
"Get me a beer"
"It's 9am-
"I can read the time"
Deciding that I'll remain quiet today, I head over to the fridge before taking out a bottle of bud light along with a bottle opener from the draw. As I open it I notice a faint sputtering sound coming from outside, I realise that it's raining. "For fucks sake" I mutter
Straightened hair and water do not mix, plus I don't have a car so that's just great. I set down his beer on the table and he reaches over before picking it up and taking a swig, he then looks at me. "What"
"Nothing" I take my umbrella before heading for the door once again
A thank you would've sufficed
"I'll be home at five-
The landline rings, "Darnell, haven't heard from you in a long time" Dad chuckles as he sits back
"If you even care" I shut the door behind me before opening my umbrella and heading down the porch steps
I apparently have a lot of reasons as to why I should hate my dad but somehow I could never see myself doing it. He can be a complete bitch at times but I put up with it because it's all I can do, it's just me him and Zuri, Mom left when I was fourteen and she was eleven so if I leave then there's nobody to take care of him. Yes I know he's a grown man but he also doesn't seem to care about his health, he drinks.... A lot. And if it's not me giving him pain killers then who else?
It's the big sister mindset
I'd like to say that I find the rain annoying but I don't because it's actually peaceful as long as you have an umbrella. I enjoy walking through it, especially at night time since it's the best time to think. And until I get a car it's how I'll be getting to most places.
I shiver as I push open the door, it's warm today but still I opted for a light leather jacket. The bell above the door rings as it shuts behind me and I set my umbrella aside before sliding out of my jacket,
"Late by fifteen minutes" Jackie tuts
"Please, it was only five" I snort
She hands me a waist apron, "You're lucky I like you"
I smile cheekily as I take it, "I know"
She then takes my jacket and umbrella, "When you're ready table ten need their tables cleared"
I tie up my hair as she heads into the back room, "Got it"
Working is probably the only thing I enjoy doing other than sleeping. One it keeps me away from home and two I actually have nice co workers, plus Jackie -my boss- who also happens to be my favourite blonde. Now I say this without the sugar coating, my area is full of white people....Loads of them.
