TREYTON•
I watch through the glass door as she laughs at something Larisa just said, they're both sitting together whilst eating lunch. It's kind of hard to take my eyes off Dax, sometimes I get too caught up in all her beauty. Her sexy smile, her beautiful hair, her clothing style (although she has an obsession with wearing my things) and even her figure. How can one look so innocent. Looking at her now all I can think about is her whispering to me seductively, her touching me and just being close to me in general. She's such an amazing girl and to know that her own father would disown her in a heartbeat is saddening.

Dakota's an angel

"She seems like a lovely girl"

I look away, "She is"

Rick sits down before opening a bottle of whiskey, "Well she seems to get along with my Larisa"

I'm kind of glad Dakota's making more friends especially now that she wants to stop going to school and doesn't hang out with Jasmine as much.

I take the glass he just poured for me, "So you're really gonna give her case to Darnel?"

He sighs, "Treyton I know how badly you want to take it but you have the bar in a few days and that's enough stress already"

"I know that but I just-.... I need this to go well"

"And it will. There's enough evidence to put her father away already and considering that he's a pathetic drunk, the judge won't need much convincing. With any luck, the mother will support her daughters claims even though they haven't spoken in what. Four years?"

"Yeah", I reply whilst thinking to myself

"With all that trauma you ought to take Dakota to therapy. The poor girl"

Funnily enough I never considered it

Rick then sits up, about to change the subject

"So you'll take the bar and then for the next two weeks you'll come with me to work on a case"

I frown, "As in?.."

"As in you'll come with me to Chicago, remember that woman I was telling you about? Lacey Green"

Oh right, the woman who committed arson

"Hard to forget"

"It's stupid really. I mean we all know she's guilty but we still need to help her"

"She lives in Chicago?" I say surprised

Rick puts his reading glasses on before going through files, "Yeah"

Chicago is literally eleven hours from where we are (Washington DC) and I don't know if I like the idea of being away from Dakota, especially for that long. I need her. I mean it's a quick plane ride as opposed to driving however I'm pretty sure we'd be driving.

I go back to looking through the door, "I'll miss the hearing"

"Son, she'll be ok for two weeks" He says softly

I sigh, "I know"

"Look I know Darnel will make sure everything goes well. Marty's being charged with domestic battery, there's no escape"

In a lot of cases, abusive offenders get away with this shit because they get released on bail and charges get suddenly dropped. I don't want that to be the case for Marty, he hurt my girl..... he killed her baby. I don't take that shit lightly.

"Hmm" I barely respond

-DAKOTA-
"Wait and so you really like where things are going?"

"Yeah, I really do" I admit
