Darrin’s POV:

I wake up when the sun rises and reflects off of one of the empty bottles of rum. I sit up and hold my head; it throbs and hurts so much. I didn’t notice Stacey was asleep on my chest, so when she wakes up she’s already sitting up with me.

“Hey,” She smiles.

“Good morning,” I kiss her forehead, “How did you sleep?”

“Thanks to the rum and your warmth,” She giggles, “I slept perfectly.”

“Me too,” She kisses me softly, and I kiss her back.

“I’m hungry,” She gets up and walks to my kitchen.

“Don’t open the fridge!” I run up and stops her from opening it.

“Why not?”

“You’ll regret it, I know I did,” I lead her away from it, “Plus with the amount of alcohol we’ve had, it will be a big mistake.” She laughs.

“Okay, then you can buy me breakfast.” I sigh.

“Okay, anything for you baby.” I kiss her.

“Say it again,” She kisses me back.

“Say what?”

“Call me baby.” I smile.

“Okay, baby,” She smiles and hugs me, “Go take a shower and I’ll sober up.”

“Okay.” She walks off and I do a little victory dance. I decide to clean up the mess for a few minutes, I don’t even notice when Stacey comes out as I’m singing.

“Gone are the days of instant romance

And the nights of slow goodbyes

That was a time of life when foxy was the dance

And then you got wise to all my lies.
Chanson Papillion, we were very young

Like butterflies, like hot butterfly

Chanson Papillion, we had just begun

We let it slide on by”

I’m dancing pretending the bottle is a microphone and I spin around when I hear clapping. Stacey is sitting on the couch laughing and smiling. I look at her embarrassed as hell.

She smiles, “oh don’t be embarrassed, you sing like an angel.”

“You scared me,” I put the bottle down.

“That doesn’t look like sobering up,” She gets her shoes on.

“You ready to go?”

“Yep,” She smiles, “Can we take your bike?”

“Yea of course,” I smile. I get my jacket, goggles, and keys, “Shall we?” I hold out my hand.

“We shall.” She smiles. We walk out to my bike and we get on.

I love riding with her much more now, maybe because since she’s my girlfriend now? We drive to the little restaurant we came last time. But this time we get a booth and she sits with my arm around her shoulders. And we eat, talking a laughing. Were completely happy, I look into her eyes.

“Is it okay if I kiss you?” She smiles and kisses me softly, and we here a gasp. Her friend from school walks over.

“Stacey!” She looks at the girl.

“Nami!”

“That’s her name?”

“Yea babe.”

“Babe?” Nami looks at her “Are you two,” She waves her fingers back n forth between me and Stacey, “a thing?” Stacey nods, “what about Nick?”

“Nami, can you sit for a few minutes and hear me and Darrin out?” Nami sits, and waits.

It takes a few minutes, nearly a half-hour, but we get through it. Stacey explained how Nick treats her and how she was sick of it, but Stacey said she loved Nick hoping it would be true. When I came back, Stacey explained, that it felt like my presence had been pulling her out of a deep hole that Nick had been digging under her. Nami slowly, but surely, understood Stacey’s feelings.

“Okay,” Nami nodded, “I understand. And as long as you’re happy, I really don’t care. But, what are you going to do with Nick? He will go berserk if he finds out.”

“I’m going to break up with him.” Stacey said so matter-of-factly.

“And, you’ll take care of her right?”

“I’ve made it my sworn duty,” I look at Stacey, “I love her,” Stacey blushes.

“Okay, I don’t object. Just be careful. Nick doesn’t fuck around; he will flip if you don’t take off the band aid and fast.” I nod and Stacey gets up and hugs her friend.

“Thank you Nami.”

“No problem. I’ll see you at school.” Nami leaves and I let out a deep breath and Stacey takes her place in my arms again.

“Good morning, Long Beach.” I smile and Stacey laughs.

“Let’s pay and go before my parents show up.” She grabs my hand and I cover the bill, and we get on my bike and ride off.

“So does this mean I can’t hold your hand in public?” I yell over the wind.

“No you can, I don’t care what people think!” She yells back at me.

“Yahoo!” I yell and ride off, “My place or yours?”

“Mine I need to do homework you can stay with me.”

“Did you think you could make me leave?” I laugh.

“I never want you to!”

Stacey’s POV:

“I never will!” Darrin smiles and rides to my house.

This will be the first time she’ll see my bedroom since we were 13, I have so much I need to hide! I blush at the thought of Darrin finding my diary, I wrote down every detail of the dreams in it. I even wrote down what I was going to do for her birthday. My birthday was yesterday January 24th, and Darrin’s birthday is February 15th the day after Valentine’s Day. Her mother always threw her a hearts themed birthday. Now, that I’m her girlfriend, it won’t be so weird. I smile at the thought, what could I give her? What do lesbians do for Valentine’s Day? I stop the thought for a minute and I’m interrupted by another, how do lesbians have sex? I could research it, I bite my lip. But, I knock that thought away as we pull up to my house.

“I’m not going to tell my parent’s yet by the way.”

“That’s cool; I’m not ready for that bomb. One crazy situation at a time…”

“Yea we’ll deal with Nick first.” I get off the bike and Darrin turns it off and Daniel walks out.

“Hey, how was your birthday bash?” He smiles.

“It was great.” I smile, “Where’s mom and dad?”

“Not here,” He smiles, “which is good.”

“What?” He knows something.

“You have time to hide that hickey.” He turns and walks off.

“What hickey?”
