A/N: So finally. An update! I hope you guys like it! Also, a bit of in-story promo: Learning to be Strong is my newest book and is actually a side story of this. It's about Charlie before he ever meets Mason. There will be a lot of reveal on why Charlie is the way he is and a better look at what made Red 'Red'. I hope you guys will check it out. Chapter one should be out by the end of the week. Maybe sooner if I get some votes and comments. 😋

Thanks for reading.

Peace Out, Girl Scouts

~Kate~

I jerked awake only to stiffen in pain and let out a pathetic keening noise.

My eyes pried themselves open to try and figure out the source of the pain. Instantly Cam's face appeared over me, features twisted in worry. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't figure out a single source. Everything hurt.

"Red?" He called, clearly trying to alert him I was awake.

I was shocked to find myself on the cot in their shared room. Had I been carried all the way home? More importantly, I had been unconscious the whole time? Pain slowly became apparent all over my body: my face, my ribs, and then my ass. I felt torn and tender but there was another pain... Like when Alex spilled bacon grease on my arm... "Good. You're awake."

Red's face was expressionless as he shooed Cam away, setting in the chair beside me. I blinked hard, trying to clear my head. "I'm sure you expect me to apologize to you, huh? You think I did wrong here?"

His sass was apparent as well as a cocky sense of entitlement to the treatment I recieved. I tried to wake myself up better so I could come up with a response to his words. "You embarrassed me this week. Running your fucking mouth like that? You deserved so much more than you got. I mean, maybe branding you a bit much but you need to remember who owns you."

Brand? He fucking branded me? Anger surged through me as I tried to get up only to groan in pain and be fended immobile for a few moments. "You. Asshole."

He quirked a smile at me with brief shrug. "Sorry not sorry."

Sorry not sorry?

Could he sound like a bigger douchebag? My hands clenched on the plate I was currently scrubbing. It'd been about a week since we visited the Fire Stone Pack and from it was able to have 'FS' forever burned onto my left ass cheek. I was furious. Will hadn't even come up to me to thank me yet which was pissing me off as well. I literally put my ass on the line for him and he didn't have the decency to throw a casual 'thanks' my way? "You look ready to kill someone."

I glared at Charlie as he popped a grape into his mouth, looking at me evenly. "What?"

"Haven't you got something better to do?"

"I'm hungry. Someone burnt dinner." Charlie took a vine of grapes from the crisper leaning against the fridge. "So tell me, what's burned your ass?"

I threw the dishcloth into the sink spinning to glare at him. "I'm not in the mood tonight Charlie. My head hurts, my ass hurts, my ribs hurt--honestly, haven't you got anything else to do?"

Charlie glared at me, moving forward to push me into the sink. "Like what Mason? You're the only reason anyone talks to me!"

Had I been in better state of mind I would have remembered his past, known why he acted the way he did and why he was so cold and closed off. But I was angry at the world and like Red, was going to take it out on whoever was available. "And who's fault is that?" I hissed, turning away from him.
