Peace Out, Girl Scouts
~Kate~
When I woke up I was wrapped up tightly on a warm bed.
Soft lamp light fell on my face, making me pry my eyes open. Momentarily disoriented I found myself on a cot in a large, lavish bedroom. Red's room. The figure sitting beside me was not Red, but rather Cam. He was asleep, sitting in hard wooden chair, head propped up on his head, snoring softly. The pain from my throat made my eyes water and my mouth taxed like blood. I looked around the room, seeing glowing embers in the fireplace. It was used more for decoration than warmth. There was large figure asleep in the California King four-poster bed. I shifted, trying to get a bit more comfortable so I could fall asleep.
Cam jolted awake at the soft rustle of sheets, face a mask of panic before he became aware of his suroundings. Living with Red made you nervous after all. "Oh no. I can't believe I fell asleep... Here, Red said for you drink some water once you woke up. Let me help you sit up."
Together we managed to shift me into a sitting position, head feeling a bit clearer. The pain was a bit sharper now. "What happened?" My voice was rough and each word hurt.
"The Delta thought he killed you. He ran outta here like a bat out of hell which freaked Red out enough to check on you himself. He made sure you were breathing again and then had me set up this bed in here. Then he shut down the Pack House. He's never done that before, Mason. He must really care about you."
There was a tone of wistfulness in his voice that made my stomach clench; despite how terribly Cam was treated at the hands of Red he still loved him and wished Red would reciprocate the feelings. Seeing n giving attention and care like that to me must have been devastating if not heartbreaking. "What about the Delta?"
Cam passed me glass of water that I slowly drank, the cool liquid soothing my raw throat. "Banned. Red found out his name was Hanley--if you cared anyway. He's never allowed back here."
"Good." My voice had gained some strength and it didn't hurt quite as badly. I couldn't imagine the state of my neck.
"Yeah... Zac's and wreck though; he blames himself."
Right. Everyone would know about it. "It wasn't his fault."
"I know," Cam's bright blue eyes met mine, lip catching between his teeth. "Do you need anything else or--"
He must have been exhausted so I shook my head, telling him to get some rest. He turned the lamp onto its dullest setting, standing, I realized he was wearing a pair of black briefs and tee-shirt, his long creamy legs exposed. He walked around or his side of the mammoth bed, climbing in slowly and carefully, sliding under the blankets.I watched Red shift with a batted breath. I couldn't handle seeing him hurt another omega tonight, whether it was verbal, physical or emotional. To my surprise however, Red mumbled something incoherent, throwing his arm around the omega, pulling him tightly against his body in a warm, protective way.
Cam smiled happily, snuggling into his cold mate's grasp, enjoying the time when he was unaware and loving.
I laid back down, giving Cam privacy to enjoy this rare time, turning the events over in my mind. I was definitely freaked out but more than that, I was unbelievably happy that it had been me in this position and not poor Zac. Of course I'd probably spent the next month assuring the timid boy it wasn't his fault, over and over again until it finally got through to him.
