You were in the middle of your usual first Friday appointment with your client. One of the illnesses this particular client had was Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. At the moment you two were discussing what rituals the client had. Soon they would be working on Exposure and Response Prevention, where you would guide the client to do their rituals differently. This would bring the client anxiety, but they would do relaxation techniques to ease the anxiety.
"I'm really anxious about trying ERP. It's going to be really distressing, doing things differently than I have for years." the client said shyly.
"I know it's a really big step, but we'll go at your own pace. I won't push you too hard, you'll be in control the whole time. We're a team. I'm really proud of you for getting this far, it only gets better from here!" you responded empathetically.
"That makes me feel a little better, thank you. I was worried I was going to be pushed and put into a bit of a panic mode." admitted the client.
"You're welcome! I'm not going to lie, it might not feel great at first, but it's just because it's something new. It will definitely get easier and easier though the more that you do it. And we'll do it in little chunks so it won't get too distressing." you assured the client.
"Oh good, I think I'll be able to do that," said the client hopefully.
"I'm sure you'll do wonderfully." you said with a smile. "It's 10 o'clock already! Do you have anything else you want to talk about before we wrap up?"
"No, I think I'm okay," said the client.
"Alright! Is 2 weeks from now at the same time good for you for our next appointment?" you replied chipperly.
"That's perfect, I'll see you then. Bye!"
"Have a nice day!" you said. You had 30 minutes before your next appointment, so you planned the next appointment you were going to have with the client from before in the meantime.
~~~
30 minutes went by and it was time for the next appointment. You hadn't met this new client before and were excited to see what they were going to be like. All you knew about this person was their name. You made your way to the lobby from your office.
"Norm Ferguson?" you called out.
"That's me." A man stood up and walked towards Y/N. He was average height, bald and had an eyepatch.
"Nice to meet you Norm, my name is Y/N and I'll be your therapist, please follow me to my office."
"Will do ma'am/sir," said 'Norm' as he trailed behind you. When you both reached your office you gestured for him to sit down on the couch.
"So Norm, what brings you here today?" you asked curiously.
"Before I say anything further, I must ask, everything I say here is confidential, right?" he asked carefully.
"It is. Unless you say that you are going to hurt yourself or someone else." you informed him.
"I see. Perfect. Well, first off, my name is actually Nick Fury. I'm here on behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D, it has come to my attention that the Avengers are in urgent need of a team therapist. I've done my research on you, you were in the top 1% of your class at Columbia University, graduated this year and have done exceptionally well here at the Therapy Group of NYC. You're exactly what we're looking for. Are you interested?" Nick said in a serious manner.
You sat there stunned for a moment. "I-I'm sorry, d-did you say you were with the Avengers? Like, "World's Mightiest Heroes", Avengers?" you questioned in disbelief.
"Yes, indeed I did." he said with a small smile.
You smiled back and laughed to yourself. You thought: Is this real life right now?! I must be dreaming. Where are the cameras? "I can't believe this is happening! But, yes, I'm very interested! Would I still be able to work here as well? What would I be doing there? What would it be like?" you asked inquisitively.
"Wonderful! Yes, you would still be able to work here part-time and you would be working part-time at the Avengers Tower as well." he informed.
"Well that sounds great!" you said enthusiastically.
"The reason we decided getting a therapist would be a good idea is because a new member just escaped captivity and is dealing with the effects of being mind-controlled. Along with this member I imagine the others will reach out at some point to get help with various things as they arise." he said.
"Oh no, that's awful. I'm sure I'll be able to help them. All of that seems very doable." Y/N assured him.
"Awesome, when is your shift over? I'll take you to the tower when you're finished." he offered.
"I'm off at 5. I'll meet you in the lobby then?" you asked.
"See you then." he said as he opened the door to leave.
~~~
You were buzzing all day. You could not believe what had happened that morning. You informed your boss that your hours needed to be cut down. Everything was alright on that front. It was 5 and you were on your way to the lobby, you were so nervous to see the facility and to meet your new clients. Your life was about to change forever.
You saw Nick in the lobby and gave him a wave and a smile. You both walked your way out together and got into a black SUV. On the way to the facility Nick explained that you would be on-call pretty much 24/7, but that it shouldn't be too busy, just that you needed to be ready to go whenever you were needed. You were a little apprehensive about this, but was ultimately okay with it, just something to get used to. He also explained how you were going to have your own office and sleeping quarters with an ensuite bathroom. You were very grateful and thought that was very generous. You were happy to leave your apartment behind, with student debt and the rent in New York, you were living in a dump at the moment.
After a bit of a drive you two arrived at the tower. You both went through the lobby and made it to the main living quarters. Nick asked JARVIS to notify everyone to meet in the living room. A few minutes passed and everyone was all gathered. Nick cleared his throat and said, "Everyone, meet Y/N L/N, the team's new therapist. Y/N, meet the team."
Omg I was so nervous to write this what the heck. ANYWAYS, I hope you enjoyed the first part! This differs a little bit from the MCU so far in the way that Bucky immediately came to the facility after saving Steve. The lead up to when Loki comes into play is a bit longer than I originally intended but don't worry he's coming! ALSO DISCLAIMER: I am *NOT* a mental health professional, so anything that is said on that side of things is not 100% accurate, although I did try to make it somewhat accurate by doing a little bit of research on Google on some of the topics that will be mentioned. If you know more about these topics and I'm getting it wrong, please let me know and I'll for sure change it to make it more accurate. Thank you for reading lovelies, please leave comments/feedback/ideas 💚
