Finding Kiera

Chapter Four

The rest of school was okay . You know , as good as school ever gets.
My Best Friend -Danielle -complained about how clingy her boyfriend is as usual .
I failed my history exam . Still all the same .

I drive into the garage that this time is filled with both of my parents cars - and someone else's. Who else would be here?
I walk in through the front door and smell something sweet. Which is really odd since my parents are total health freaks. I follow the scent the kitchen and find my mom covered in different assortments of baking ingredients.

" Oh , hello darling. " My mother says brushing some flour off of her hair.

" Hi , Mom . What um - happened here ?" I ask and almost immediately regret even bringing it up.

" I tried to bake a cake for your birthday Saturday . " My mom says , followed by a sigh .

" I see where the 'tried' part comes in " I say . " But thanks for trying." I give her a big hug and head up to my room.

I started to study for my retake of the exam , but realized soon that netflix would be a much better education. I open my account and start watching my favorite show of all time - Open Heart. It first came out in 2015. So it's been 3 years and it's still going. Wow I love this show!

In the middle of Season 2 episode 13, my phone vibrates. I turn on the screen and see a text from Danielle. She said that there was an awesome bonfire going on in 10 days and that we were both invited. Since I get invited to these often due to my parents, I am not too surprised. Unlike the times before , I decide to go this time because for once my best friend is invited too. And anyways, what ever happened at a Bonfire? Besides fires. And death. And bugs. Lots and lots of bugs. Maybe I should just stop making this list.

The car from the garage has still not left, and I start to wonder who's here. 15 seconds later I hear the front door open. My brother walks in with a girl that I recognize at his side- Danielle.

" Family, I would like you to meet my new girlfriend , Danielle. " my brother , James says proudly.

But of course my whole family knows who she is. Its the girl I thought I had known since kindergarten. Why does she all of a sudden like my brother?

" DANIELLE? " I scream, not in anger but in curiosity.

" Kiera, please calm down. We are still best friends. But you have to accept James and I. Can you do that ?" Danielle asks me as if we are still IN kindergarten.

" I don't know Danielle. So it was your car in the garage ? " I ask her this time angry.
" Yes." Danielle says knowing what is coming her way.

"You think you know people and then they turn around and stab you in the back. It always starts with the family. Next thing I know, you'll be moving into my room and leaving me in the dust. I just - can't. Not right now." I say while running up the stairs.

" Kiera, please. "Danielle says.

" Just DONT. " I say with the meanest eyes I've ever had.

The only thing that will make me feel better is Open Heart. I watch the rest of the 2nd season and then turn on my alarm and go to sleep.
Can this week get any worse ?
