Chapter Twelve

Alister?

Alister?!

"Ma'am, there's no one on his list named Alister. No one verified him."

" You're right. I'll pull up his profile on the Grade Book."

"Okay thanks." I say as I slowly walk away but she stops me on the way out.

" Kiera, I just found your brothers profile. It says that your mother called in this morning at 10:00 saying that Alister was now allowed to pick James up. "

" Wait, does this mean that he can pick me up as well?"

" No. On the side there's a note that says that he can pick up only James explicitly."

What? Why would he do that? Doesn't he want to be able to pick me up too? Or is he just gonna steal me out of my own home in the middle of the night. Like I could sleep even before all this happened.

I start to walk home when I get a text from a blocked number.

What if it's from James?

What if he needs help?

But what if it's Alister?

What if he wants a ransom?

I don't have that much money!

Wait a minute. I haven't even opened it. Why am I coming up with all of these scenarios? For all I know it's just one of those spam texts that everyone gets.

I open the message and see this-

" Hey Kei. It's James. I don't have that much time but I need you to come to the Old Valley Mill. That's where Alister is keeping me. If you don't trust that it's me, just ask me anything. But please hurry. "

Is it really him?

I have to ask him one question that only he could now. And something he could easily lie about.

" Hey "James" . What time is it?"

I wait for exactly one minute until I get the text.

" Nutella Time Idiot. "

It's him. We used to spend every Friday night, eating nutella. I would get home and I would ask him what time it was. He always had the same exact answer. Nutella Time Idiot.

And consequently, its Friday.

I have to go to him. I need to.

I send back

" I will find you James. No one can stop that from happening . I love you James."

" I love you too Kei."
