I wouldn't know if anything important happened in school today. I was too busy worrying. Worrying about what I was going to come home to. Worrying about James not meeting me outside Mrs.Montgomery's room. I'm still worrying. Where is my mom? She could be -

RRRRIIIINNNNGGGG

Thank god. The bell. School is finally over. I run over to my locker and pack up my stuff. Then I speed walk down to Mrs. Montgomery's room, where my brother is waiting for me.

" Hey James."

" You ready to leave, Kei? "

"Yep. Let's go home and pack our stuff. We are staying with some friends. Nobody needs to find this out. No one . You hear me? " I almost demand.

" Of course. So where are we staying?"

" Danielle? " I ask.

"Might as well ask."

"Okay. Let's go." I say while walking out the front door.

We're halfway out the door when I realise I left my keys In the classroom. I tell James to go wait in the Office and head back to class.

When I get back to the classroom I turn on the lights and there is no one In there. At least I think there isn't.

I head to my teachers desk and see a note that says my name on it.

I open it and see that it says

" Mrs. Carter, always leaving your things around. Here are your car keys. You are rather lucky I decided not to take them with me. "

Classic.

I turn off the lights and step outside, closing the door behind me.

I start walking down the hallway when I hear a noise.

CLONK. CLONK. CLONK. CLONK.

The sound is familiar. Soft but distant.

Footsteps.

Who else could be here?

The footsteps get closer and closer. Louder and louder.

CLONK. CLONK.

The louder they are, the faster I ran.

I run into the Boys bathroom- whoever is following most likely wont look there first. I sit quietly and gather my thoughts, but I'm drawing a blank. There's only one thought that I can think of. I need to protect James. No matter what it takes.
