Karan Shergill hated parties. The ambience, the drinks, everything screamed of richness and he loathed that feeling. They reminded the special agent of something painful, something which he didn't want to relieve.

But, alas, tonight was different. At Batra Ma'am's order, the strict commando was found at a party, much to his distaste and it was pretty much evident on his face.

Karan had just finished talking to Ustadji about the party arrangements when he heard someone approaching him from behind.

With a playful knock on Karan's back, his best friend's voice floated in his ear, "Tum to bilkul tinch lag rahe ho aaj." Karan turned and saw Faizi who was smiling foolishly.
"Waise hajba kis baat se kharab hain? Hum yahaan pe thode masti kar lenge iss baat se, ya woh sundar pretty kanya ki fiance hain is baat se?" Faizi asked walking beside Karan, as the latter moved around the welcome party arranged for the recruits with a bored expression on his face.

"Monami ka fiance hai is se mujhe kya problem hogi?" Karan counter-asked Faizi instead.

"Oho! To janab maante hain ki Miss Monami Tsunami sundar pretty kanya hain", Faizi grinned like a fool and punched Karan's shoulder playfully. "Not bad!"

Karan fought the urge to roll his eyes.
"Faizuddin Siddiqui, uniform mein har ek insaan ek sa hi dikhta hain", Karan said stressing every word as he spoke, as if his best friend was not a trained commando, but an oversized five-year-old toddler.

Faizi's excitement didn't waver. "Hmm, par aj alag dikhegi, kyunki aj wo uniform nahi pehni hogi", he instantly replied hoping to get a reaction out of his nariyal best friend. Karan just stared instead.

He walked on disinterestedly paying no heed to his best friend's words. Faizi always speaks nonsense, doesn't he? Karan thought. He shook his head slightly to drive out the memory of a certain girl in a green jumpsuit, which flashed in his mind at that exact moment.

".....Sham Mastani, coming up!"

Karan watched on as Siddharth lead Batra Ma'am to the dance floor to the sound of applause. As they danced to the beats of the evergreen song, Karan observed them closely. He felt a tinge of jealousy as he saw his mother figure dancing with that spoiled rich kid. He paused his thoughts, as Sanju walked up to the table where he and Faizi were standing.

"Sirji, humare gaon mein kehte hai ki marne wale ke bare mein akram shakram na bolna chahiye," Karan looked at Sanju as the latter spoke with a scrunched-up face. "Par humayi samajh mein ek baat na aroho ha, ki acchi khasi doctorni ne je chirkut mein ka dekhkar pasand kar lo?" the younger agent continued. Disapproval laced Sanju's voice, as she debated on Monami's awful choice.

Karan was quick to respond. "Nahin Sanju, dhyan se dekh, perfect jodi hai ekdum." He shook his head and pointed at Sid who was dancing, "Ek hi dal ke paanchi hai dono."

Beside him, Faizi giggled slowly. "Hehehe! Dekho yaar jalo mat, barabari karo." Faizi pointed at Sid and continued, "Ab Monami Tsunami ne isse chun liya, to janab ko jalan ho rahi hain." With the grin intact on his face, Faizi playfully hit Karan with his shoulder.

"Faizi iss baare mein mazak mein bhi mazak mat karna." Karan glared at his bestfriend. "Tu jaanta hai in jaise raeeszaado se nafrat hain mujhe. Inhe sab kuch itni asani se mila hai, kisi cheez ki kya, inko kisi ki life ki bhi value nahi hain. Inhi raeeszaado ki carelessness ki wajah se...", Karan trailed off. After a pause he spoke, " ..Param bhaiya ke sath kya hua, tu acchi tarah janta hain."

The playful mood in the air had disappeared. There was a somber mood as Faizi finally decided to shut up his mouth for good.

Suddenly the lights went out. Everything plunged into darkness. A voice rang out, "Woah! What the fish!" It was Siddharth, his tone laced with disappointment.

"Arey tension ki koi baat nahi hai, ek hi phase gaya hai. 2 min mein ajayegi light, Ustadji assured the crowd.

Karan walked away from where he was standing. Everyone had their phones out with the flashlights turned on. That's when he sensed her.

Oo..Oho..
Oo..oho ho..

Karan suddenly looked at the entrance. A slender figure was slowly approaching them. He made out it to be the figure of a woman. Her hairs were bouncing off her shoulders as she walked daintily. The dust in the air was giving a smoky effect as it reflected back off the one dim light at the entrance. Karan stared at her as if she was an ethereal being from another dimension.

Oo..Oho..
Tum ho..

As the figure finally, came into the light, Karan's breath hitched in his throat. It was Monami. Standing in a black dress, she looked beautiful in minimal make-up. Karan blinked once slowly.

Tum ho..
Paas mere

Saath mere

Ho tum yoon..

Jitna mehsoos
Karoon tum ko
Utna hi paa bhi loon

Monami took a deep breath and started to fix her bracelet. She remained unaware as a pair of deep black eyes studied her.

Karan fell into a trance. At that moment, Dr. Monami Mahajan seemed to him the prettiest woman in the universe. He stared at her long and hard. His eyes grew wide and he felt something thumping hard inside his chest. Monami's every movement had enticed Karan. He felt like he was in a deep magic sleep, far far away from the halls of Parakram SAF. And he didn't want to wake up, ever.

Karan was a rational person. But at that moment he couldn't think anymore. Suddenly nothing else mattered but the woman standing in front of him. Everything around him dulled and, for a heartbeat, it was as if the entire world were holding its breath. He allowed himself to get lost in her deep hazel eyes.

"Monami! Love of my life!". Siddharth's voice broke Karan's trance. He didn't realize when the lights had come back. Karan caught himself just in time and moved away.

But at that moment, Faizi's voice from earlier rang out in his mind. Somewhere in his heart, if he had one, Karan agreed, that Monami was indeed a pretty sundar kanya. Unaware of the Tsunami of emotions that Monami will bring into his life later, Karan walked on. It was going to be a long, long night.
