Of Emotions and Duties

To be worried was to be an understatement.

Karan knew he should have put his personal grudges aside. No matter what, he was a soldier first. His foremost duty is to protect the civilians. On top of that, Monami Mahajan was his cadet and is under his responsibility. And now she's in danger.

Oh! If only he had believed her, then this situation wouldn't have arisen. But alas, Karan's wounded pride along with deep-rooted hatred for a certain rich doctor didn't make him think rationally. And now he was deeply regretting not listening to Monami.

The video Sanju had shown earlier had affected the usually calm Karan to a great extent. The tension was evident, though he didn't let it appear on his face. He just wished for Monami to be safe. With a final look at the handkerchief that Monami had returned him back despite his refusal, Karan went out of the room. With all the memories from the morning playing in a loop, he sent a quick prayer to the heavens above for the success of the mission, along with Monami and Siddharth's safety. Monami's face quickly flashed in Karan's mind for a split second. He sighed. She was one ziddi girl, wasn't she?

The state of Siddharth had sent Karan into a frenzy. The young man was brutally stabbed and a lot of blood was lost. Yet he was worried for his best friend. Karan was surprised to see how deep the bond between the two friends ran. Even in the video, Monami was shouting for Sid, not caring that she was held in Chirag's clutches. And now this namoona was all concerned for Monami. Shayad itne bhi bure nahin hai, Karan thought.

Was he too quick in passing the judgement on this duo?

The presence of the untrained cadets in the mission had deeply irked Karan. It meant more danger for all of them. It was a dangerous organ trade racket and was no child's play. Already one of his cadet was trapped inside with other helpless civilians. All alone, unarmed. So at that moment, he couldn't afford any more distractions.

Yet Karan felt proud when his namoonas rescued all the girls safely. Now only Monami was left.

Lekin akhir kahan hai woh?

Present time

Karan reached the third floor of the hospital. The corridor was desolated. All the cupboards were toppled over giving an eerie vibe. He checked all the rooms but there was no sign of Monami. His tension grew.

He stood in the corridor checking if he missed anything. Suddenly he felt someone was trying to reach out to him. He immediately turned back only to be greeted with an empty silence. Monami?

Karan quickly went into another corridor. Where was she? His worry increased with every passing second.

Suddenly he heard noises. Two voices to be precise. One was a loud brash one and ..... was it a whimper of a girl? Yeh zarur Monami hogi.

Karan traced the sound to its origin and came to the door of a room. What he saw next, made his blood boil.

There she was lying on the stretcher kicking her legs in the air, gasping for breath while the maniac, Chirag, strangled her.

With one swift motion, Karan kicked Chirag, making him fall to the ground away from her. Karan scanned Monami. She was in a disheveled state, but no major injuries were seen. Thank God for the small mercies.

Karan quickly reached out to her. A small smile broke on Monami s face. With a little difficulty, she extended her hand to him. Karan was quick to grab it. Her cold fingers quickly wrapped around his tactical glove-clad hands. As Karan's bare fingertips closed around her palm, a tingling sensation ran down both of their spines. An unknown feeling engulfed him, but he quickly shook off the thought.
