– Ozzy, you know him? – Özgür gestured for the boy to come closer. – How did you meet?
He was in Peru and then he came with us here and came to our home a few times.
– Ozzy be quiet. – Derin pulled her son closer. The look on her face was pure anger. – You will not talk to my son without my permission.
– But mom...
– Not now, Ozzy.
– Serdar put you up to this. – Özgür shook his head. Ezgi felt his muscles tense as turned to look at the other man. Serdar was talking to one of the nurses, nervously glancing at them every few seconds. Dering didn't answer and all became clear. – He did.
– He just told me the truth.
– The truth? – Ezgi found her voice again. – You want to know the truth? – He hates Özgür. And he will do whatever it takes to hurt him. – Derin looked like somebody slapped her on the face. – It's not the first time he's trying to mess with us!
– You're lying! – Derin took a step closer. – You're trying to slander him, because you don't want Özgür to know what you really are. A gold digger and a slut!
Once again Ezgi slapped Derin so hard, the woman stumbled back, pulling Ozzy with her. The sound echoed through the hall of the clinic making everyone look. Serdar was among them. He noticed Özgür holding Ezgi and Derin holding her face. Ozzy was on the ground crying and no adult was paying attention to him. It didn't even cross his mind to intervene.
– Don't you dare insult Ezgi. – Özgür grabbed Derin by the arm. – She's a thousand times better than you. From now on you will stay away from us. Don't you dare call or text or email. If you do, I will accuse you of attempted fraud. – He looked at Ozzy. – Focus on your son. Come on, Ezgi. We have a wedding to prepare for.
One thing Özgür couldn't deny himself, though. On their way out, as they were passing Serdar, he took a swing and with one punch sent the doc to the ground. There may have been blood, but Ezgi didn't really stop to look. Security was running in, alerted about the altercation.
Half an hour later Özgür was sitting on the terrace, quietly surrendering himself to Ezgi's gentle touch. She put an ice pack on his hand, which was already swollen. It was barely noon and they both felt like a whole day passed them by.
– Özgür, are you alright? – She asked, concerned. – You've been quiet ever since we left the clinic.
– I'm just shaken. – He admitted. – To be honest, I'm a little disappointed. I know it's not what you wanted to hear. I'm sorry.
– I don't want you to tell me what I want to hear. I want you to tell me the truth. And if you're disappointed, that's OK. – She said, putting mint ointment on his knuckles.
– Really?
– Well... – Ezgi sighed. – I'm not really happy that you're disappointed that you don't have a child with another woman. Especially since I myself am actually relieved. – She put the ointment back in the first aid kit and squeezed Özgür's other hand, the good one. – But it is what it is. You're entitled to your feelings as I am to mine. Right?
– Right. - Silence fell between them, as they looked into each other's eyes. Finally Özgür spoke again. - Do you... umm. Do you think we could not talk about this whole situation again? I just want to forget about it.
– Sure. I was just wondering...
– About?
– Do you think she asked for the paternity test to be done in that clinic, so that Serdar could change the results?
