KENTRELL CLUTCHED THE steering wheel of the car as he glanced back at Karma in the mirror.

The couple were on their way to New York, and it would take about a day and some change to get there. They probably should have flown, but Kentrell didn't want to with Karma being so young in age.

After their argument last night, and sleeping separately, the two were barely talking to one another.

Small sentences here and there, and sometimes they would have full blown conversations but it would be more of an argument than anything.

"The fuck is you breathing so hard for?" Kentrell mumbled underneath his breath, but Amani heard it.

"Kentrell, not today, okay? I'm tired."

He laughed, although he found nothing funny. "So you tired of yo own baby na you tired of me?"

She sighed, leaning her head against the window.

Amani already felt bad enough but he was beginning to make things worse.

There were some points in time where she was holding Karma and all she wanted to do was throw him across the room.

Not because she was an abuser, but just because she held some sort of disgust for him.

Nobody wanted to feel like that about their own baby, and it saddened her that the more she tried to feel differently, she couldn't.

Postpartum depression came with a lot of symptoms, and it felt like she was feeling them all at once.

"Shoulda just stayed ma ass home," Kentrell shook his head, "Don't even wanna go to dis shit no moe."

"Well I asked you that before we left, Kentrell! We're already six hours in! Too late."

He glared over at her before looking to make sure Karma was still asleep.

"Ma son sleeping. If you wake him up, Ima send yo ass through this fucking windshield."

Amani's eyes began to water. She had never seen this side of Kentrell.
