Maya's Point of View
Sitting on my bed I read the book Lottie recommended me. I was deep in my thoughts that I didn't hear my door being opened.
"Maya honey..." I looked up to see my mother standing in my room. I sighed and put the book aside. "Yes?"
"I brought you this dress for the ball," she told me. "What ball?" I asked her confused. "Me and Taehyung's mother arranged a ball for you and Taehyung, so we can celebrate your engagement."
I shook my head in disbelief. This woman...
"Okay..." I stood up. "I will call Bella and Lottie," I was about to take my phone but my mother stopped me. She sat us down and looked at me. "Why?"
"Why what mother?" I asked her confused. "Why are you going to call them?"
"Well, I want them to come with me. They are my best friend's mother. I always take them with me," I said with a smile on my face.
"No," she said shaking her head. "You're not taking them with us, I don't like them."
My smile faded away. "Mom they are my best friends!" I slightly raised my voice. She gave me a stern look and I regretted raising my voice.
"They aren't worth it Maya. Out of all of your friends they have got to be the worst. They are no good for you," she said with a disgusted look. How dare she? She has always tried to control every aspect of my life ever since I was a little girl. Speaking the right way, holding your wrist the right way... but I won't let her ruin my friendship with Bella and Lottie. They're the best thing that has ever happened to me.
"Mom, you know nothing about them," I said, standing up from my bad.
"Ever since you met them, you talk less to me," she suddenly yelled. I flinched at her loud voice. "Especially that Isabella girl. She acts like a hooligan!" She stood up too. "You've never seen the bad in people Maya. Your so naive, you've always been and here's me trying to help you and what do I get in return?" She kept yelling, waving her hands in the air. "I get disrespected and I'm sick of it!" She took the dress out and laid it on my bed. "Luciana will come later and do your hair and make-up. Wear this and be ready at 6."
Before she left, I whispered, "You know nothing about them..." my mother turned around and said, "I know everything I need to. Why aren't you friends with Kelsey and Heather? They should be your friends," I laughed at her words. "Why mother, because they meet your expectations?"
"They come from a wealthy family, have manners and a bright future," she said bluntly.
"You know what mother..." I spat the word 'mother'. "I'm sick of arguing with you about the same damn thing. You have to accept my friends, the way I accept this marriage you arranged," I said and started to slip my shoes on and grab my things.
"Where are you going? You have to try this dress on," she yelled after me. "I'll visit my friends - my real friends," and with that I closed the door behind me.
