Maya's Point of View

I laid down on my bed as I held the small band between my fingers.

It was a light and delicate engagement ring with jewels placed into the band itself. The stones in the ring had been rescued and reset into the most stunning engagement ring, it was new and old, recycled and one of a kind. It was perfect. But not made for me.

There is something so sweet at that moment of proposal, the heart fully open and vulnerable, that the eternal bond of the couple is made all the stronger. The bond me and my fiancée are sharing is non-existent. It wasn't like any other proposal. Not like the ones you see in movies.

I was deep in my thoughts that I didn't realize that someone opened the front door but suddenly, my bedroom door burst open and two faces that I hadn't seen and missed in the last weeks, walked in.

"Where the hell is she?!" Bella yelled as she saw me laying in my bed. "Calm down, Bells. We don't know what really happened." Charlotte tried to reassure Bella, walking right behind her. I stood up from my bed and took my ring off. "Here... this hopefully answers all your questions." I held the engagement ring up, letting Bella and Charlotte see the tiny shiny band.

"Oh, hell no, she didn't." Bella scoffed. "She did." I sighed and sat down again. Charlotte came to me and sat beside me. "Why didn't your father stop her?"

"You know he can't. She never listens to him." I said, feeling embarrassed that my father can't fight against my mother. "Maybe I need to talk to her..." As Bella said that, she turned around to leave. "No!" I quickly grabbed her hand. "You know you can't. She already hates you and if you talk to her, it will get worse. I know she wouldn't allow me to see you guys ever again." I looked at both of them. "And I can't afford losing you two."

"But May, just because she's living her traditional brainwashed life doesn't mean she can marry you off to some random guy. You are her daughter." I sighed, knowing Bella was right, but I could never tell my mother the truth.

My mother was one for surprises, each day a multitude of tiny things.

I'd be up early, voice blaring. My mother would be upstairs, 'putting her eyebrows on' as she used to say. Then she'd shush me, and I'd complain of her reducing my rights to freedom of expression, only to hear her stock response, 'I'm not seeking to reduce your rights, love, just your volume'.

"This is a nightmare." I groaned. "Is there no way out?" Charlotte asked as pushed my long blonde hair away and rubbed my shoulder. I sighed. "No, I tried. God knows how much I tried, but no one listened to me."

"What if you run away?" Bella asked. I looked at her in shock. "Are you for real?" She nodded her head. "I would, if I could, but I know I can't. She would find me and then kill me."

"Well..." Bella started again. "... is he at least hot?" She raised an eyebrow. "Bella!" Charlotte scolded her. "Not the right time."

"What? If we are in this situation, there must be one good thing, right?" I chuckled and shook my head. "He is handsome, but too cold."

"What do you mean?" I took my phone out and scrolled through my camera roll. My parents insisted that Taehyung and me take a picture together. You can see how forced it is. He had his arm around my waist, but if you look closely, you can see that he barely was touching my waist. He didn't touch nor looked at me the whole might.

Not only that, but he was very distant and only gave short non-answers when asked questions about himself. He would only nod or shake his head.

"Here." I handed them my phone and let them see him. "Woah." They both said at the same time. "If this were a whole other situation, I would eat him up." Bella gushed as she stared down at my phone. "He is hot." She handed my phone to Charlotte.

I chuckled. "Bells, if Zayn heard you, he wouldn't be happy at all." I spoke. "Nah, my man's would never leave me. He loves me too much." She said as she applied her lipstick. "Why isn't he smiling?" Charlotte asked, looking closely at him. "I told you, he is a cold person. Believe me, he didn't show any emotion during the whole dinner. Not a single smile."

"Looks like you both don't want this." I sighed and nodded my head. "But if he didn't want this, he could have said something."

"What if he has a girlfriend?" Charlotte asked. I furrowed my eyebrows. I didn't think of it. What if he really has a girlfriend or had one? What if he had to break up with her because of me? I don't think I would be able to handle that.

"Maybe his parents are fucked up like yours." I narrowed my eyes at Bella, but she only shrugged her shoulders. "This is ridiculous." Charlotte handed me my phone back.

Both Bella and Lottie sat down beside me and wrapped their arms around me. "We will get through this May." Bella said.

"Yeah... we'll also be there for you. We won't leave your side." I smiled, thanking God for these amazing best friends. "Thank you, guys. I love you so much."

We were interrupted as Charlotte's phone kept buzzing. "Who is calling you?" I asked her. "Oh, it's just Harry..." Charlotte said and blushed a little. "Aww, is someone having a little crush on Harry?" Bella said in a baby's voice. "Shut up Bella." Charlotte tried to defend herself. Her phone buzzed again, and this time she picked up the call. While she talked to Harry, she had a big smile on her face. Bella and I looked at each other and smirked.

"Yeah, I'll be there in 10. See you later." She hung up and looked at us. Our grin didn't leave our face. "Oh guys, don't even start." Charlotte rolled her eyes and picked her jacket up. "Where are you going?" I asked with a smug face. "Harry wants me to meet him at this new café down the street."

"There is a new café?" Bella asked curiously. "Yes, he said his friend works there, and he wants me to meet him." Charlotte replied. "Who is this friend?"

"I don't know. He only said that he lived in Canada. He recently moved to L.A. He's trying to build something for himself, I don't know what." Charlotte put her jacket on and took her purse. "Can I come with you? I don't want to stay in this shithole." Bella whined. "Hey! I live in here too." I gasped.

"Sorry May, I love you, but you know this place is hell." I shrugged my shoulder and chuckled, knowing Bella is telling the truth, but in all honestly, hell is probably much better than this.

While Lottie drove us to the café, Bella told us about her new obsession with Zayn's new hair color.

"Lottie..." I interrupted Bella's speech. "What's the guy's name?" I asked her from the backseat. "Harry's friend?" She asked.

"Yeah."

"Oh, his name is Justin Bieber."
