Chapter 13.

-Cole's P.O.V-

My phone rang as I was about to grab my bag from my study table in my room. I recognized the caller ID. It was Cassie.

''Hello?''

''Morning Cole. Pick me up today?''

''Sure!'' A smile crept to my lips, my whole morning suddenly seemed so much happier, after knowing the fact that Case actually asked my to pick her up, instead of Jake.

''See you then.'' And she hung up. I wasn't offended though, not a bit. I was too cheerful to even care about it.

Me: I'm here. :)

I texted Cassie once I'm outside of her house, her car in view, in her car porch. It didn't take a minute for her to come out from the door and in world record timing, she was already climbing into the passanger's seat beside me.

''Hey Cole.'' She flashed me a grin as she slammed the car door.

''Hey.'' And from there I started the engine, and it blasted into life. Making some rumbling sound.

We drove in silence for what felt like 5 minutes, Cassie was the one who broke it.

''I heard you... switched with Jake?''

Acting all innocent and shit, ''What...?''

''Come on Cole, you know what I'm talking about.'' She looked at me, I took quick side glances at her, trying not to make so much contact, and at the same time, not wanting to be rude. She was still looking at me though, waiting for an answer. I pressed the pedal harder, it's better if we reached school earlier, right?

''Talk to you in school. Needa concentrate on driving.'' I said, my gaze still on the road. That was probably the lamest excuse in the whole world, probably an understatement of the century. Cassie know very well that I used to dance and sing along with her in the car while I'm driving, let alone talk.

''Fine.'' She muttured under her breath.

Though, I don't even know why I wanted to say it in public. Heck, I don't even know what I should be saying.

~*~

So, Jake isn't here yet. And Case's target is aiming at me, and me only. I was sitting calmly in my homeroom till she suddenly barged in and literally dragged me out, pulling my arm with all the strength she has got.

We ended up at the end of the hallway. Where no one is here, oh my God, what if Cassie kills me and nobody ever finds out?

''Okay, I really don't understand you, Cole. First, you were fighting with Jake for taking the '3 days offer' which is fetching me home on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Now you want to exchange with Jake?! Like, what the heck. I know it's not a big deal but.... why?'' She said it all in one short breath and there and then. You have it. I was about to tell her.

I leaned in, my mouth right beside her ear.

''Because... I can't live without 'u' on Tuesday and Thursday. '' My voice sounded raspier than I had expected.

''I......''

Hold on a minute, when did I even get that idea?

''Actually, I want to fetch you home every. single. day.''

Did an alien just took control of my mind because I sure as hell think I'm crazy at what I had just said.

We both stood in awkward silence. Our heads still next to each other. I hadn't retreated my head yet.

''Courtney Lange. Courtney Lange. Courtney Lange.''

The sound of people chanting on this familiar name had caught me off guard.

Courtney Lange....?

I quickly took a step back from Cassie. And looked down the hallway,

It's her.

A pink floral sleeveless tank top, along with studded shorts, a pair of black high top sneakers, wearing a pair of shades, gripping on a iPhone on her left hand, while her right hand is swinging by her side as what looked like the whole school followed her by her steps.

My mouth was ajar, shocked at who it was. I gulped down my adam apple.

Courtney Lange.

'''Who's that?'' Till then I realized Cassie is actually with me, she peeked her head out, looking at what the chanting was for.

''Um.... I have no idea.'' I decided not to tell her the truth.

''New student I suppose.'' Cassie said with a shrug, like it was no big deal.

''Yeaaah...'' Courtney and the crowd was coming closer and closer. I realized I was literally staring at her, and how much she had grown. I quickly turned to my back when they were about to past me.

Fat chance on being hidden though.

''Cole!'' Oh great. Courtney had noticed me. I turned around from the wall...I actually kinda miss the wall right now. Courtney was looking at me, a grin on her face. The crowd was staring at me, like 'how can the new girl even know his name?'

''Hey Courtney.'' I said softly. Please leave, leave, leave, leave.

''I missed you!'' She flung her arms around me, forcing me into a hug.

This is awkward. I looked to where Cassie was standing, a look of confusion hanging on her face. ''You guys... know each other?''

Courtney pulled away and looked at Cassie. ''Well ye-''

''Nope. I saw her walking around the neighbourhood yesterday and I thought she was new so I decided to talk to her and you know, socialize.'' I couldn't let Cassie know, though I don't know why I can't.

''Wha-'' I nudged Courtney by her shoulder to shut her up, chances of doing that are really really thin.

Like really thin.

'''So... since I'm first to know her. I guess I could give her some information about the school. I'm gonna give her a tour now.'' I flashed Cassie a smile. I didn't wait for her reaction and pulled Courtney out of the crowd and Cassie. We walked for about 5 minutes, and finally the coast was clear.

''What are you doing here?!'' I hissed.

''To study. DUH. What do you think?'' Like I care whether you're studying or not.

''No, not that. Why are you here, in this school?!'' I asked, desperate for an answer.

''What do you mean? Don't you miss me?'' She gave me a flirtatious smile, it really sent me the chills.

''No.. I mean. I do bu-''

Courtney just freaking crashed her lips to mine.
