One fine Sunday morning, the summer sun shone brightly through my window into the bedroom. I opened my eyes and felt lightheaded. It was only nine o'clock in the morning. I got out of bed and stepped to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. I checked my phone to see if I any messages from my friend, Megan.
"Hey, you were really toasted last night during the barbecue. I said bye to your dad and left, but I had a really good time. Talk later."
She had sent that message last night while I was asleep. Wow! I had gotten toasted. Thinking about last night made me realize that I had not eaten anything all day yesterday due to the excitement of the new job offer. I quickly texted her back, "Good morning! I slept well, just woke up with a mild headache," before walking downstairs to the kitchen where I could hear my mother.
"Good morning!" I surprised her. "Is breakfast ready?"
My mom is an average woman in her mid-forties with light brown hair. She's not slim, and has a few love handles here and there, but she's very adorable. I know she's the world's best mom when she's in a good mood.
"I've been waiting for your dad to come to the breakfast table." she shrugged.
"Where is Dad?" I asked.
"He's in the backyard putting the grill away," she replied.
We had a beautiful barbecue party at our house last night. We had my best friend, some neighbors, and a few of my dad's colleges from work over. We had so much food, different beers, and wines. The barbecue lasted until dusk. I drank so much that I don't even remember when my friend left. I think my dad probably walked or carried me to my bedroom.
I Heard a ping and checked my phone. It was Megan saying, "Morning! Just waking up. Text me when you go to the mall."
I decided to head to the backyard and watch the world's greatest dad straighten the aftermath of the barbecue. I call out for him, but he's in his own little world. My dad is in his late forties. He's strong, though because of his build he doesn't look it. I go up to him and tap him on his shoulder, which startles him.
"So, you're up and how are you feeling?" he asked.
Ooh, God! I'm puzzled and look back at him. I really hope I didn't do anything embarrassing last night. I remember a few details, but nothing solid until this morning.
"I am sorry about that, dad. I usually never drink that much, but I feel fine." I uttered. "So, what happened last night? I didn't do anything embarrassing, did I?"
"Look here, Sam, as long as you're at home, you're in safe hands. But you're in college now, and you have to be careful of your surroundings. You are my sweet little angel. I'll always look after you," he promises.
"Dad, I'm twenty years old, and I only drank freely because I'm at home. It won't happen again," I swore.
"Come here my princess, I just want to see you safe and happy!" he smiled.
"I know, and you're the world's greatest dad," I said with tears in my eyes.
He wiped my tears and continued to hug me.
"Does mom know about last night?" I asked. I really hoped not, because she would be mad.
"No, she went to bed around ten. It'll be our little secret. Just promise me that you'll never again get that out of control," he smirked.
"Thanks dad. I promise. I think it was the excitement of starting the new internship tomorrow," I explained. "Let's go have breakfast. Then mom's taking me to the mall for some new clothes for the new job."
