I didn't see him the rest of the week. When the weekend arrived, I was thrilled to be able to sleep in, but there was sadness in my heart because the weekend meant that I wouldn't have any chance encounters with him.
That Saturday morning, I called Megan to see if she wanted to meet for lunch, but she already had plans with her boyfriend all weekend, which left me with my second favorite pastime remedy: Netflix. I browsed through the categories, and like always, ended up watching a romantic comedy.
I hadn't realized how tired I had been from working all week, which was evident in the weekend passing by so quickly. I woke up Monday morning feeling refreshed and ready for whatever the week threw at me.
After a quick breakfast with my mom, I kissed her cheek and dashed out to the car where my dad was waiting. The drive to the station was quicker than usual. My dad, as chipper as ever, hugged me goodbye and waved as I walked towards the platform.
When I got to the office building, I headed straight to the elevator and made a beeline for my cubicle. To my surprise, Melanie was standing beside my chair with a big smile on her face. As I approached her, I couldn't help but see a bouquet of roses behind her.
"These were sitting on your desk when I walked in. There's a note attached," she winked.
I was surprised to see two dozen multicolored roses in a crystal vase. There is a note attached, along with a card.
Dear Miss Samantha,
I would like the
pleasure to take you out
for coffee as the last one
got spilled because of
my carelessness. Please
accept my apologies and
let me make it up to you.
James.
P.S. Please text me on
my cell
I read the card over and over again. He had printed his phone number on the bottom of the card. I liked the way he took the blame for my carelessness and even apologized. T say I was stunned would have been an understatement. My eyes filled with tears which made Melanie laugh.
"Why are you crying? Are they tears of joy?" she wondered.
"Of course, tears of joy," I laughed as well. I didn't know what else to say. I had not expected to see such beautiful flowers on my desk on an ordinary Monday morning.
"I'm really happy for you," Melanie grinned. She walked back to her desk and I pulled out my cellphone to take a quick picture of the card and bouquet to send to Megan. I wanted her advice on what to say to James, because I didn't want to freeze up again.
I knew Megan would be overjoyed for me, and she was. She loved the flowers and wanted to know if there was anything on the back of the card. I asked if she would pick me up from work later so I could show her in person. While waiting for Megan's answer, I picked up the delicate card and flipped it over.
These flowers are as
beautiful as you.
Hoping you accept.
I started blushing all over again and was thankful that no one else was around to see. I couldn't help but read his words over and over again. I loved the way that he compared the flowers to me because they really were gorgeous.
