"Today we acknowledge a really terrible loss. Cedric Diggory was, as you all know, exceptionally hard working, infinitely fair-minded, and most importantly, a fierce, fierce friend. Therefore, I feel you have the right to know exactly how he died. You see, Cedric Diggory was murdered, by Lord Voldemort. The Ministry of Magic does not wish me to tell you this. But not to do so I feel would be an insult to his memory. Now the pain we all feel at this dreadful loss reminds me, and, reminds us, that though we may come from different countries and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one. In light of the recent events, the bonds of friendship made this year will be more important than ever. Remember that, and Cedric Diggory will not have died in vain. You remember that, and we'll celebrate a boy who was kind, and honest, and brave, and true. Right to the very end."
The great hall was filled with people wearing black. The hangings were black also. The tears had dried from your face and you hadn't bothered to wash the marks off. Your eyes were still red.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were sitting on the bank of the black lake, back to the black forest, fresh tears inching their way down your face. Someone sat down next to you and wrapped their arm around your shoulder pulling you into them. It was Viktor. He didn't say anything and just let you cry into him. When you stopped crying he looked down at you and his usually cold eyes were soft with sadness.
"I'm sorry." Was all he said. You nodded and leaned into him. Finally he spoke again. "Diggory vas a good student. He vas alvays kind to me even though I vas from a different school and vas against him in the Triwizard Tournament."
"Cedric was a good friend. He was always kind to others." You said. "I can't believe he's dead." A tear trickled down your face but Viktor wiped it away.
"Your friend was very brave vhen Voldemort came." He said. "He tried to protect Potter." You nodded. "Vhen I talked to him sometimes he vould talk about you." You looked up at him.
"Me?"
"Yes." Vikor said. "He alvays talked about how you vhere kind and brave. And a good friend."
"He was just being kind." You said. "I'm not brave."
"Yes you are." Viktor said. "You stood up to those death eaters and you helped me vith the clue even though you could have been caught."
"I know." You said. "But I would have never been able to face you-know-who like you and the others."
Ever since Cedric had died you had stayed far away from everyone, even your friends. They kept asking you if you were okay but you just avoided them.
"This is just a faze." George promised his twin. "It'll go away soon enough." But it didn't. You were silent in your classes, in the hallway, and pretty much everywhere else. You had closed yourself off from the wizarding world of Hogwarts. Would Cedric have wanted you to do this? Definitely not. But you did it anyways.
"Maybe she's still trying to pass the fact that Cedric's dead." Ron said.
"No, she passed that a while ago. I think this is just the aftermath of watching someone die." Harry responded.
"Or maybe she thinks it's her fault." Hermione said.
"She wasn't there." Ginny reminded her. "It was only Cedric, Harry, and Krum."
"What if Krum had something to do with it!" Ron said.
"It was Voldemort, Ron." Harry said. "I don't think Krum's a supporter."
"Well, the fake Mad-eye Moody was." Ron said. You perked up. Fake Mad-eye Moody? Is that the one that put Viktor under the imperius curse?
"Krum didn't do those things on purpose." Harry said. "He told me and Cedric in the maze after Cedric did some spell that took the imperius curse away that Mad-eye jinxed him."
"I can't believe I even liked that Mad-eye." Ron said.
You shivered as the wind sent ripples across the black lake. You came here every day just to think. You remembered how Cedric was always skipping pebbles he found on the bank across the surface of the water.
You took out a picture from your pocket. It was the one Cedric had given you for christmas. It was of him, you, Fred, and George. Laughing. You smiled at Cedric's laughing face. You missed him. You put the picture back into your pocket and turned away.
"Do you ever enchant them?"
You stopped.
"Enchant what?"
"The rocks."
You looked behind and saw a ghostly imprint of you and Cedric standing next to the lake. Cedric was skipping rocks across the surface.
"I used to." Cedric grinned. "Then dad told me to stop and actually learn how."
You walked up to Cedric and put your hand to his check. It went right through.
"It's easy, once you get better at it." Cedric promised you. "You just need patience."
"Well, I don't have very much patience." You said. Cedric's grin widened.
"I know. Just try."
The mostly figures of you and Cedric vanished and left you standing alone, letting the wind blow your robes around. You turned and headed back to hogwarts.
The school year was almost over and people from all schools were talking and getting their new found friend's contacts so they could write. You had started talking to your friends and others ages ago. But it wasn't easy.
"y/n, can I talk to you?" Viktor asked.
"Sure." You followed him into a secluded area next to the black lake. "What do you want, Viktor?"
"I don't really know how to explain it..." Viktor said. He looked away then looked back at you. "y/n, I like you. I like-like you." After he said that he blushed and looked away, clearly embarrassed.
"Viktor..." You began.
"It's okay if you don't like me that vay back." Viktor said. He turned to leave but you grabbed his hand.
"It's not that." You said. Viktor looked at you.
"Then vhat is it?" He asked. You leaned closer to him and kissed him. For a second Viktor was surprised then he kissed you back. You smiled up at him.
"Write to me?" You asked. Viktor nodded, smiling back. You slipped a piece of paper into his hand. Your lips meet again and the sensation sends butterflies zooming around in your stomach. You never thought you would be here. Standing next to the black lake kissing Viktor Krum. But unexpecting things happen. Especially in the wizarding world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You waved as the other schools walked away. You couldn't believe this year had ended. It felt so long but so short. The flying horse drawn carriage lifted off the ground and flew off. Your last sight of the Durmstrang ship and Viktor vanished into the black lake. What would happen next? Who knows. Anything could happen.
