"Are you even listening to me?" My older sister Tess's voice wines through the phone.

"Nope." I simply say as I continue to pull out the ingredients for pancakes. My phone sits on the counter top on speaker while my sister drones on about her wedding.

She's 25, 5"5, blonde hair blue eyes. Barbie lookalike. You know the type. My whole life it's always been "can I get your sisters number?" "How's your sister?" "I would totally fuck your sister." Unlike her i'm all brown eyes, long brown hair and face full of freckles. Which by the way, I love.
Tess is engaged to my future brother in law Lucas and my parents couldn't be happier considering he works for my dads construction company. Where, mind you, my sister also works as the receptionist.

"Nessa, seriously can you for once pay attention to me and actually listen. If you show up to my wedding and ruin the whole thing.."

I stick my finger up at my phone wishing she could see me, "okay, okay I get it. You what me to get their half an hour early to make sure the flower arrangements are up to standard." I pick up my phone getting ready to hang up. "See I was listening."

She huffs through the phone, "it's only three months away and I can't have my sister be the won to ruin it."

It's always been this way. Vanessa Collins the black sheep of the family. The only one without blonde hair or blue eyes. The one who ruins everything. The reason they think this is because the one Christmas dad had his work party at our actual house I ran into the 9 foot tree and it fell onto the food table... I was 7.

I've learnt to live with my mothers constant nagging to try harder and look better. My fathers disapproval in me getting my degree in early education instead of business. My older sisters weird passive aggressiveness towards me.
The twins I don't see much but they're 23. Hunter works for dad and Jack well he's the only one I that doesn't have an issue towards me. I guess you could say is also the black sheep? He's a pro hockey player in the NHL. Dad still gives his big speech about what a bad idea it was but he goes to most of the games he can and laughs with him at the fortnightly family dinners. Me? Not so much. I barely get acknowledged.

"Tess, like you said it's three months away we have time to talk more about it but..." I trail off hoping she'll get the hint.

"You never take anything seriously. Mom and dad are right, you purposely rebel against the family because you thinks it's fun and it makes you feel better." Before I can ask what the fuck she means she hangs up.

"Deep breaths" I say to myself. I can't remember when the dismissiveness and dislike towards me started exactly but I'm used to. Mostly.

"Nessa!" My name is shouted through my small 3 bedroom Campus apartment that I share with my two best friends.

"Yeah?" I holler back while cracking an egg into the bowl. It's 9am on a Sunday so it's definitely not Flo calling for me. That girl could sleep all day if you let her.

Just as I though seconds later Elle walks in with a cute floral sundress on, "is it okay if I-" she cuts herself off "ooh what are you making?" She asks.

Elle is literally the prettiest person you'll ever meet. She has glowing dark skin and black shoulder length curls. She's around 5"3, and if I were into girls I'd be into her.

"Just some pancakes. Thought I'd change it up a bit. If I have to eat scrambled eggs one more time.." I huff a laugh as I poor in some flour.

"Ugh tell me about it. Anyways I was wondering if it's okay Piper comes over for a bit tonight?" A small blush crept up her dark cheeks as she asks.

Piper is Elles girlfriend of about a two month. She was sweet and I was happy the Elle finally found someone. She's been open about he sexually since we met in freshman year of collage. We were both now sophomores. Along with our other roommate Flo. Who I've been best friends with since I was 13.
I'm a year younger than both of them with me turning 19 in a couple of months.
