Levi
I beep the horn of my truck and watch as Colt flips me off before jogging the rest of the way to me.
He climbs into the passenger side and says, "dude you said she finishes at three. It's two-thirty and it's five minute drive back to our place. Relax." He's smirking as he relays this information to me.
I roll my eyes and pull out of the lot. I just wanted to get home. It definitely has nothing to do with the fact that Vanessa was coming by.
"She's just coming to get her bag and then be on her way. She'll be there for less then five minutes."
He gives me a disbelieving look, "yeah I'm sure it'll be only five minutes."
It's 3:15 when I hear the knock on the door. The house is quiet and I'm in my room upstairs. I don't rush downstairs because I know Colt is down there and he'll get the door.
Just as I make it to the top of the stairs I hear Colt yell, "Levi! Bro get down here I don't know what I'm supposed to do." He sounds panicked and that causes me to hurry down.
As I get to the bottom I see Vanessa is standing there with tears running down her cheeks. Colt has one of his hands on shoulder patting it awkwardly.
I shoot him a glare and he backs off. I step closer to Vanessa and she wipes at her face like shes trying to get rid of any evidence she's crying.
"What's wrong pretty girl?" I ask her as I come to stand in front of her. My chest constricts and my gut sinks at seeing her like this.
She looks freezing. All she has on is a pair of dark jeans and a white t-shirt. She looked good. She always looked good.
"I- I'm fine." She stutters out. I level a look at Colt who just hold his hands up and says, "when I opened the door she just started crying."
What do I do? Do I pester he until she tells me what's wrong? Give her her bag and send her on her way? Obviously I'm not going to do that. Just the thought of sending her on her way makes me want to throw up.
I pull her in for a hug and she starts crying more. What? Just as I'm about to pull away she wraps her arms around me and burrows her face in my chest. I rub her back as she lets it all out.
It feels nice to hold her like this. Even if the circumstances isn't that great.
Colt gives me a thumbs up and turns to leave. Just then half the team walks through the door and they all freeze at the sight in front of them.
I feel Vanessa stiffen and Tank says, "What the fuck did you do to the poor girl Levi?" I know he's joking but I don't find it funny.
"Fuck off." I say before I pick Vanessa up. She wraps her legs around my waist and I carry her up the stairs into my room.
I kick my bedroom door shut and sit on my bed. Vanessa is attached to me but I think she's stopped crying now. Her head is on my shoulder and her long hair is falling down her back.
I continue to rub her back, "you gonna tell me what's going on? Or should I guess?" I tease trying to lighten the mood.
I hear her let out a small laugh before she lift her head. She doesn't move off my lap as she wipes her eyes. She misses a tear and I lift my hand to wipe it for her.
She looks so sad. It's hurts my chest.
"What's wrong Vanessa?" I ask again.
She takes a breath, "it's nothing. I'm just being dramatic." It's then that she realises she's still sitting in my lap. She quickly stands, "I'm sorry. I'm wasting your time. I'll just grab my bag get out of here."
