{ chapter 11 : cair paravel }
❄️❄️
Heading up to the cliffs, the children begin exploring the ruins that were not there the last time that they were in Narnia. It made them wonder just how long had passed since they had left because the ruins were old and it would have taken a long time for them to reach this standard of stone.
Zarina ran her fingers along the stone, feeling the cold moss beneath her skin and admired the dainty flowers that also grew there. Edmund furrowed his brows as he walked along the grassy covered floor, trying to piece together what had happened whilst Lucy admired the view of the ocean from one side of the cliff.
"Wonder who lived here."
Susan moved to walk towards her sister but felt something sharp under her shoe, leaning down she picked up a small gold chess piece and realised what this meant. She almost couldn't believe what she was seeing, shocked that the piece had survived this long and held it gently between her fingers.
"I think we did."
Peter and Edmund appeared just behind their sister, hearing her revelation and wanting to know what she had found. The younger brother gasped at the gold in her hands and snatched it from her. "Hey, that's mine, it's from my chess set."
"Which chess set?" Peter questioned as Edmund rolled his eyes, the answer seemingly obvious.
"I didn't exactly have a solid gold chess set in Finchley, did I?"
Lucy's eyebrows furrowed together as she took another long look at the ruins and gasped when she recognised what had once been their home. "Can't be." She runs forward to a large open space and the others followed her, wondering what she could see that they couldn't. "Can't you see?"
"What?" Peter questioned, hands on his hips.
She grabbed them one at a time and began moving them to all face the same direction, trying to get them to see what was so obviously in front of them. "Imagine walls and columns, there and a glass roof." She moved Zarina to stand in the middle before taking her own place at the end, seeing her beloved home which had now become nothing but ruins.
"Cair Paravel." Zarina took a deep breath, feeling almost emotional that their home had ended up this way. They didn't want to leave but they had no choice and now their home was completely destroyed and there was nothing that they could do about it.
Edmund knelt next to one of the larger stones on the edge of the cliff, examining the damage. "Catapults."
"What?"
"This didn't just happen, Cair Paravel was attacked." He explained to his older brother, both of them growing more worried by the second.
"Yes, but by who?" Zarina questioned, feeling worried that they were stood on a war ground without even realising.
