Makayla Marie Sanders
I honestly feel uneasy about attending this birthday dinner with Lucky. Something's telling me it won't go well but I'm really trying to be there for him. He's told me about his family before and what I got from it, they seem like good people but of course I'd have to meet them to see for myself. I don't know, I just want get this over with to be real.
Today Lucky turns 22 and I have a little surprise for him. I ordered him a chocolate two-tier cake from one of the best bakeries in town. Chocolate is his favorite cake flavor so I made sure I remembered that detail for sure. I also got Mama to hook me up with court side tickets to the Lakers game tomorrow. She designs custom fits for a few of the players, so they hook her up with the best seats in the house. Last but not least, I got him a custom brown and green guitar made with his name on it. He's mentioned how he wants to learn how to play, so I also got him lessons with a celebrity guitarist. I support him in his career so I feel that this will take him even further learning how to play a new instrument. I hope he enjoys his gifts, he deserves it. He's been such an incredible friend during these challenging times for me. Devin's a real one..
"Happy Birthday to you!!" I sing to him and we hug each other, drifting into each other's scent, "And yes, I know I'm a terrible singer."
"Damn right you are," he chuckles and I gently push him.
"Shut uppp!" I laugh at him 'cause he's looking hella serious.
"But all bs aside Kayla, this is one of the best gifts I've ever received, like ever. Like damn man...I'm speechless right now. Wow.."
"I'm so glad you like it!"
"Hell yeah. I haven't been this happy in a long time, I really do appreciate you," he leans in and tries to kiss me and I tilt away from him.
"Aht! No, no, noo," I press my finger against his lips.
"What?!"
"What did I tell you?!" I look at him with all seriousness and he looks confused.
"Oh!! Aww shit, yeah, I forgot. The hormones," he rolls his eyes. I so happen to look down at my toes and notice his print bulging through his jeans. Godammit Devin! You fucking horse, you! Oh my sweet Lord...
"Umhm! Yep, that'll do it for me," I quickly walk into his kitchen to fix me a piece of cake.
"I'm sorry Kayla. I got caught in the moment."
"Yeah, I saw," I respond annoyingly but shocked at the same time. I like Devin a lot, but not in the way he wants to right now. I'm just taking my time, that's all. I slyly glance over at him sitting on the couch, adjusting his pants to make it go down. I never knew he was that big. Probably one of the biggest I've ever seen in person, damn...
"So..um, you like the cake?"
"Of course, I'm the one who bought it, thanks to my mama, I know all the good bakeries and this one happens to be the best in my opinion."
"Definitely fire.."
"But hey, Devin remember I told you I have a lash appointment at two? It's 1:30, so I'm going to go ahead and head that way, okay? See you later for dinner?"
"Yeah, yeah of course. I'll come pick you up at 5:15, that cool?"
"Yes, I'll be ready."
"Alright, give me a hug—nevermind."
"Right. I'll just..see you later," I respond awkwardly, scooting towards the door to exit
"Right..see you later," he throws his head back over the couch.
