CHAPTER 4
Kunot ang noo ni Hugo habang nakaupo sa sofa ng opisina niya. Kanina pa nakatitig ang binata sa ibabaw ng center table niya pero wala pa rin itong kibo. Adamson was looking at his friend who was really confused. Napailing si Zero dahil sa inaasta ni Hugo habang halos matawa naman si Kyrus sa kanilang tatlo.
"Man, you're all smitten to the same sisters," natatawang tugon ni Kyrus.
Umiling si Adam. "I'm not smitten!" Dipensa niya.
"I'm confused..." Hugo said.
"I think I failed as her boyfriend and her friend," si Zero naman.
Sabay na umiling ang tatlo habang si Kyrus ay napailing. "Buti na lang hindi pa ako nababaliw."
"Magpakasaya ka na," Zero said.
"Sulitin mo na..." si Adam naman.
"Araw-arawin mo na," si Hugo.
"What the fck is wrong with you guys?!"
"We're smitten!" Sabay-sabay nilang sigaw.
Napahilamos si Kyrus sa mukha niya. "Ang gulo niyo, mauna na ako," he said and left Hugo's office.
Inis na umiling si Hugo. "She said that marriage is sacred..."
Zero sighed. "She said she won't date her exes again."
Kumunot ang noo niAdam. "She said that work is important than love..."
Napalingon si Zero kay Adam. "Sinabi niya 'yon?" Gulat nitong tanong.
"Yeah, she did."
"She's just in denial. Suyuin mo lalo," suhestiyon ni Hugo.
"What did your wife tell you?" Si Zero.
Huminga ng malalim si Hugo. "Marriage is sacred... I don't get it."
"Marriage is between lovers. It's not sacred if it's not loving," sagot ni Adam.
"She loves me?" Hugo asked.
"Aba malay namin," si Zero. "Your wife never leaves the company or your house. Kung lalabas man siya ay kasama ka lagi."
"Maybe it's you who loves her?" si Adam naman.
"I..." Napatigil si Hugo. "What the fck is love?"
Zero burst into laughter. "Invite your wife here and we'll fcking see who loves who."
Napatango-tango si Adam sa suhestiyon ni Zero. Hugo sighed and pulled his phone out of his pocket. Huminga ng malalim ang binata at hinanap ang pangalan ng asawa sa contact list niya. Zero and Adam rushed behind Hugo to see what Catalina's name is registered in Hugo's phone. Akmang tatakpan na ni Hugo ang pangalan ni Catalina nang biglang magring ang cellphone niya.
Muntik nang mahagis ni Hugo sa hangin ang hawak-hawak na cellphone. He blew a curse when he saw Catalina's registered name on the screen. Sunod-sunod na malulutong pang mura ang pinakawalan ni Hugo nang tumawa si Adam at Zero.
"What the fck is love?" Humagalpak nang tawasi Zero.
"Bro, saguting mo, 'your life' is calling!" Si Adam naman na tumawa rin ng malakas.
"Fck..." Inis na mura ni Hugo, he answered the phone call. "Yes?"
"Nasa office ka ba?" Catalina asked on the other line.
"Yeah, how 'bout you? Where are you?"
"May nakita ako sa mga sulat ni mama, it's Latin."
Nilingon ni Hugo ang mga kaibigan sa likod, they were smiling like idiots. Hugo cleared his throat and stood up from the sofa.
