«I should cure you!» Katherine thought with anger and shame as she pressed once the button that led to the main floor of the building and multiple times the one that closed the elevator doors «"Nutty nuts" What the hell is "nutty nuts"!?».
The blonde gal ran a hand through her hair, after that she fixed her dress, jacket and scarf and when she didn't had nothing else to do, she began to hum along with the repetitive song that played on the elevator until it's doors opened.
"Morning Patrick" she greeted the guard that was sitting on the other side of the counter on the building's lobby, he looked tired and bored, thing that made Katherine glad her job have her enough time to sleep as much as she wanted "Tough night?".
"A really boring one Kate" the man replied with a smile followed by a large yawn.
The girl chuckled and approached the guard, she then searched for something in her purse and took out a small envelope "Could you please hand this to Mister Dawson once you see him Pat? Oh! And tell him it's for fixing the fridge, thanks".
The tired man simply nod and Kate smiled back to him, she then turned and walked towards the large wooden doors, in order to get out to the street.
Once she opened the door she was immediately greeted by a soft and cold breeze, the singing birds, the pleasant smell of freshly cut grass and the annoying sound of the horns of the passing cars.
With dislike she glanced towards the horizon and sighted, since she had to walk a considerable amount of streets in order to get to the office.
She strictly believed that the human body, or at least her's, wasn't made for walking long distances, but still she decided to walk from her house to the doctor's office, not only because it was healthier, but because she was going to save some money to buy herself a new car, since she desperately needed one.
Katherine began to walk through the road that she know knew too well, even though she only lived there only for a couple of months she already remembered every turn, rock and tree she had to cross to arrive to the her workplace.
She also met tons of new faces every day, not only as patients, but also as everyday people.
She was glad that the place where she lived was extremely secure, clean and the people there were also supremely nice, to the point that it was almost a routine for them and for her to talk and to catch up with everything that happened in the lapse of less than twenty four hours that they haven't seen each other.
The baker was one of her favourite persons to do that, he was a jovial, happy and big man that each time she passed in front of his store she stopped to talk with him, at least for ten minutes, he would then give her a generous slice of cake, and -of course- she didn't say no to that.
As she approached the store the man saw her and Katherine immediately began to walk faster, a small chuckle crept out of her mouth.
"Hi Frank!" She said happily as she was crushed into a tight hug by the large man wearing an apron, the strength of the man made her spine crack a little and the pain she had on her back disappeared instantly.
"Good morning you lady!" He answered with a smile as he let her go and went back to the other side of a counter that looked way too small for him.
"I'll take a croissant and a coffee Frank, but I can't stay" she said with sadness as she took out a ten dollar bill from her purse and the baker took out a homemade and amazing looking Black Forest cake that made her mentally drool, and cry.
"Why not?" The baker, Frank Dalton, asked in a tone that sounded similar to the one a five year old would use, even though the man was at least forty years old. The curved bread that the girl ordered was now on the oven and the coffee machine was smoothly preparing the hot drink. As a response Katherine quickly stared at her watch on her wrist and then she showed it to Frank, "I'm late" she added with a small frown as the man saw that for the first time, in all the months he knew her, that she was actually late.
