He witnessed numerous couple broke up and then get back after a few weeks. He witnessed longing eyes following a certain person around. And he witnessed numerous fights unfold infront of him, may it be his cousin, Chase or best friend, Ren.
That's why he knows. That relationship ain't all about love, kisses, hugs, cuddled and promises. That it wasn't all about butterflies in your stomach or an explosion of lovely colors when that person is around.
There comes times of arguments, misunderstanding, hurting, and eventually someone leaving. There ain't a perfect relationship. And everything that starts, has to stop. Has to come to an end somehow.
Kei's quite old enough to know.
But despite knowing this, he still wish for a little change. He wants something that'll never stop. Something that'll never end.
And to keep that something from ever ending, he did everything. He tried fixing everything. Tried knotting every string that had been broken many times. Tried putting back things to their place. Just to keep that something from ending.
But, just as they say, you can't board a sinking boat. And you can't fight for someone if that someone doesn't want to fight for you. And you can't put back shattered pieces of a broken glass just to make it whole again. You can't.
That's why, when King asked for a space in their already messy relationship, Kei gave it to him without a second thought.
They don't get along well like any other couple, he knows that. They fought over little things and argue over nonsense discussion. But, they still try to make things work.
"Cat and Dog." Their friends called them. Their thoughts and ideas always clashes which always causes a fight. Their likes and dislikes opposes each other that always gets in the way of their conversation. Its a never ending problem.
And they probably both had their fill of all the fights and arguments that they both blurted out a decision that the both of them didn't think of. Or it would be best to say that they just got too tired.
Kei looked up from the magazine he was reading when he heard soft clutters behind him along light footsteps that he knew too well. He turned, only to see his boyfriend coming out their bedroom dragging a black luggage.
"Packed everything, yet?" He asked softly, getting on his feet and approaching the raven. "Or do you need my help?"
King scoffed, twisting his lips. "Unlike you, I don't have a lot of things to pack. But, thanks for the offer, I guess."
"Hmm," he hummed, reaching a hand to brush away the others fringes.
Fingers lingering on the side of King's eyes. He even smiled when the other leaned on his touch, sighing softly.
"It'll be cold in a few days. Be sure to always wear warm clothes, alright?" he added and the other replied with a nod.
He leaned down, forehead touching the other. Hands caressing the others cheeks, breathing in his scent that Kei will surely miss.
"Do you really have to go?" King nodded with the question, fingers wrapping on his wrist.
"Yeah, I have to," he says, soft, quiet and somber. "I have to. For the both of us, Kei. For us."
Kei sigh.
He didn't know why or how, or even what did they fought about earlier that ends up with this. Ends up one of them leaving. He can't remember what they talked about or why was some of their stuff broken, scattered on the floor of their apartment early in the morning.
He didn't know what came to King's mind when he ask for a break. For a breather from their neverending fights.
And he didn't know why he said 'yes' to that request. And when he came to his senses, he just saw his boyfriend packing his stuff in their bedroom with a solemn yet determined expression on its face.
However even if both of them didn't meant what they said, none had the guts to take back the words they said. No one.
"Why don't you just stay?"
It was inevitable. He knows that when King decides over something, it'll never change. But still, he can't help but hope. Hope for everything to be fix one more time. To restart, one more time.
"Then, we're back to square one," King whispered, tightening his hold on Kei's wrist. "To the never ending fight. To hurting each other. Then nothing will change, Kei."
Its the truth.
They restarted numerous times. Broke up too many times to count and get back together again. They tried fixing everything, even each other. Changing habits and avoiding things that emits a fight.
But, its no use.
Because as they avoid things that the other hates, new one will rise. New arguments. New habits. New things to fix. Its a never ending saga between them. They'll fight. They'll broke up. And reconcile. They'll argue. One will leave. And then reconcile once again. Everything repeats.
So he thought that maybe this is for the best. That its best to fix themselves instead of fixing each other.
"Take care of yourself. . ." Kei whispered as he kissed him on his forehead, hand combing King's raven hair. "Don't stay late at night."
"Hmm." King nodded, wrapping an arm on his man, pulling him into a tight hug. "Don't stress yourself over your studies. Take a break. And don't forget to eat. Okay?"
They stayed like that for a while. Embracing each other, not wanting to let go.
But eventually, King pulled away. And Kei has no choice but to do, too.
He held his hand as they walked through the door. Stopping when they reached the entrance. Squeezing each others hand as they stare at their apartment door.
King gulped as he stepped out, looking back at his lover who hasn't let go of his hand.
"This isn't goodbye, right?" Kei asked, eyes desperate and voice breaking.
The raven shakes his head lightly, smiling weakly. "It's not, Love. It's not."
He inhaled roughly and releases the air unceremoniously. "Will you come back to me?"
"Will you wait?"
"I will," Kei declared, forcing a smirk. "However long. I'll wait. So, come back."
A tear dropped from King's ocean-eyes, but he still manage to smile. "Then, until next time."
Kei bought his lovers hand to his lips, kissing his knuckles before finally letting him go. "Until next time, my King."
