Looking out of a car window at the world flashing by in a blur outside must be one of the most peaceful experiences one can have on this planet. Just sitting there by yourself watching the world flicker past outside from the comfort and safety of your own car. There is something magical about simply watching things, be that people, nature, animals or just the world outside of a car window.
It was whilst doing just that, staring at the world outside of her car window that Ingrid found peace for the first time in a long while. She was finally able to take a moment for herself to just breathe and to try and gather her thoughts.
Ever since that phone call from Marc Lavigne a couple of weeks ago Ingrid had not had the fortune of having many of those serene moments to herself.
The phone call that had changed her world, hopefully for the better, was still engraved in her memory to perfection. Everything had felt like it had moved in slow motion and she could still remember dropping both her phone and herself to the floor in a small storage room at the hospital.
After giving Marc all the answers he had needed she had broken down crying once again, but that time out of relief and happiness instead of out of grief and sadness. It had been another one of those magical moments that she'd had quite a few of lately.
Since that fateful day there had been copious amount of visits to the FIA headquarters in Geneva as well as their office in London, she had taken part in photoshoots, had received clothing and other necessities such as a paddock pass, flight-tickets had been booked as well as hotel rooms. She had received a crash-course in unofficial rules of the Formula 1 world and extensive details about the people and places she would meet and visit, she had shaken hands with hundreds of people, been in thousands of meetings and so, so much more.
It had been intense to say the least.
In that short amount of time she had also found the courage to quit her miserable nursing job at the hospital. It had been difficult to do, she still felt a touch unsure about leaving the trustworthy path she had followed since starting her education at nursing school, but she hoped it would all be worth it in the end.
Ingrid had also started looking for apartments up for rent in Geneva and most important of all. She had thought thousands of thoughts about this new crazy phase of her life that had suddenly been thrown upon her.
Everything still felt like it was too good to be true, like someone was tricking her. That this would all turn out to be a really evil prank orchestrated by all of her ex-boyfriends or something.
Sure Dr. Gary Hartstein, her main co-worker, could be a bit grumpy sometimes, but if you simply gave him time to went out his irritated feelings in a low mutter for a couple of minutes, as well as made sure he had a cup of coffee and a cigar at hand, than there was not much to worry about on that front and she had found his company much appreciated during her time spent at the FIA's office in Geneva. Whilst he was tough and quite strict to work with, she already felt like a much better nurse after a couple hours of intense and interesting conversation with the experienced doctor.
It felt a bit like being back at school, with millions of different pieces of information being thrown at you all the time from different angles. There was just so much to take in, everything from how to deal with a driver and a potential head injury, to what equipment was used for what as well as hundreds of different people she needed to form close relationships with. It was exhausting, yet so exciting at the same time.
And now it was time for the real deal, everything she had learned during this short time was going to be put to the test this weekend.
At this very moment, in the moving car with the blurry world outside, Ingrid was on her way to Heathrow Airport to take a flight out to Barcelona for the second testing of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
