First Memories

Elizabeth woke to the sound of heavy footsteps downstairs. She sat up and yawned softly, blinking tiredly. It was the middle of the night but her parents seemed to be up. She was only six years old but her parents had started making her sleep in her own bed. She had a difficult time sleeping and even with the slightest sound she woke.

She got up and headed towards her parents' room, planning on sneaking in with them to sleep. She opened the door and crawled in between them, not thinking anything of the footsteps below them since she felt safe in the bed. She shut her eyes and fell fast asleep but was woken moments later to the door being opened.

She froze in fear as a huge man came in and shot both her parents in the head. She screamed and began crying. "Mama! Dada! Wake up!" She wailed as she shook them. She was still to young to understand death yet but she knew fear.

The man rushed over and grabbed her, picking her up. She began screaming and kicking as she tried to get out of his grip but he hit her on the head with the bottom of his gun and everything went black...
