Worth It

Elizabeth was different.

Meliodas knew that clear as day. The way she thought, the way she acted: everything was different about Elizabeth. She wasn't like others and even if she was oblivious to that, Meliodas knew it for certain. He knew it as well as he knew how to breathe.

The normally cold and callous demon prince couldn't deny that he had grown a soft spot for his latest pet, something about the goddess drawing him in through a way that was simply way too alluring to be natural.

Everything he did seemed to revolve around this one woman, this one goddess, the blonde at first dismissing it for him breaking her in, but soon coming to a phase where he couldn't even call it that anymore. It was too doting to be that now. Too caring.

His eyes would follow her form around the room, sometimes lingering on her curves, but mostly curious as to what she was doing; he'd take the time to memorize her favourite things, surprising her in ways that had first been attempts to lure her in into a trap, but had now become something he enjoyed doing just to see her smile; Meliodas had even made sure to distinguish her from all the lowly staff of the castle, making it extremely clear that the goddess was under his command and could go wherever she roamed.

In short, Meliodas knew that somewhere along the path, he'd stumbled and fallen straight into a passage that was simply impossible to back out of now. He was somewhere that he had never trekked before, everything being new, foreign and dangerous. However, there was no backing out now, especially when he'd let something he shouldn't slip out, the words being irreversible no matter what the prince told himself.

Plus there was the issue of the Supreme Deity being extremely pissed at the fact that he'd abducted her daughter, the leader of the goddesses stating that she'd start a war if her daughter wasn't returned to her safe and unharmed. Which was in other words, in the state in which she had been taken in.

That led to the Demon King being equally pissed off because Meliodas' once 'very-good-and-accepted-by-the-King' plan was now something that could spark yet another conflict between his race and the fickle-minded goddesses.

Naturally, that left Meliodas in the quite the predicament, the blonde demon dwelling on whether he should actually let this continue or simply let Elizabeth go back to her realm.

It would be more beneficial to let her go back, the act making the war threats disappear along with all these weird thoughts and wonders that recently bloomed. All the smiles, fond notions and even thoughts of actually being with Elizabeth would disappear, the demon returned to his former prideful self. That sounded good, right? A win-win situation.

But then again, doing that would be hard. Meliodas knew that giving Elizabeth back was something he did not want at all. He wanted to keep Elizabeth all to himself, the demon stating this many times when they'd been all alone. She was all his and no-one else's, the blonde never wanting to say goodbye to his sweet goddess. He would die a thousand times if it meant Elizabeth would never leave his side and so war was actually something he considered worth the goddess. It was a mere trifle.

But then there was the damn way she managed to change his mind all the time.

It was no secret that Elizabeth hated conflict, the goddess mellowing out the once cold and empty husk of Meliodas. She had shown him love and kindness, her innocence being the thing that broke through his brutalization and cruelty. Elizabeth had made Meliodas a little more kind and understanding, the goddess making him see other ways to get what he wanted instead of the usual taxing methods of harshness and threats.

She naturally had a sway on this matter - just by knowing exactly how to push the demon's buttons. No matter how much Meliodas resisted it, it was only a matter of time before she'd get him to change his mind about this too.

"Is something wrong?" Elizabeth blinked, her cerulean eyes deepened with concern as her brows pinched. She peers directly into his gaze, unaware of how effective that one simple act was. "You seem distracted today."

"Just some boring war stuff," Meliodas waved it off, easily passing the stewing thoughts of his mind as nothing. He's done it all his life, done it to everyone he's known, it should be easy. But then, Elizabeth was not everyone... "Nothing worth your time."

The goddess nodded, not appearing entirely convinced, but deciding to leave the matter. She knew he'd tell her about it eventually, just how he knew that he couldn't keep something like that away from her for long. But that was something Meliodas liked about Elizabeth, that she never really pushed for answers if she knew they'd come eventually. Most people would be impatient and demand for one, but Elizabeth would wait. Elizabeth would understand.

She'd always understand.

That's why Meliodas knows she's worth it. She's a hundred percent worth going to war for.

So that's what he'll do.
