Solar Urticaria

A/N: Solar urticaria is a rare allergic reaction to sun exposure. The condition causes an itchy rash or hives that appear on any skin that has been exposed to the sun. The more skin that is exposed to sunlight, the more serious the reaction will be. There is no cure for solar urticaria.

Ever since Tommy could remember, sunlight hurt.

He was told to avoid it.

And that's just what he did.

His body reacted in such a way that he sometimes was on the verge of death. And that scared the hell out of him - and his family.

Phil, his dad, got window coverings that helped to an extent, but the best solution for his son's wellbeing was just to eliminate natural light and use a lot of electricity.

Tommy had had a few experiences with sunlight.

He'd been outside a few times. But his condition was severe and it often ended badly.

For instance, one time, when Tommy was 13 (and his brothers were 16 and 17) they all decided to go shopping, for fun.

The two older brothers were fully aware of Tommy's situation, and were very caring to him. Which is why they were very careful, but still went along with their plan.

They quickly got Tommy in the back of the car - which had sun blockers on the windows - and drove quickly to the mall.

It was late afternoon, so the sun wasn't that bright. But Tommy still felt a familiar itching start on his jaw.

He wasn't sure what to do.

So he decided to try to forget it and not tell his brothers that their terrible plan had - obviously - failed.

When they got to their destination, Tommy was in pain. His skin was reacting, painfully, to the sunlight and he could feel his body getting ready to faint.

"Toms, you ok?" Techno enquired, a concerned expression laced onto his face.

Tommy had the typical "It's fine" ready to say, in his mouth, but he really wasn't.

And it was then, he broke down in pain tears.

"H-Hey-Hey!" Wilbur said, in wannabe-calm-but-uncertain way, "I-It's ok! Breathe, we'll get y-ou in the sh-shops, there's no sun there. O-Ok? I'll get some aloe v-ver-vera."

Techno nodded in agreement as Wilbur ran to the car to get some supplies. The oldest son led Tommy out of the fading sun beams and to a quiet patch in the center.

Tommy was trying so hard not to itch. And Techno was failing to stop him.

"Tommy!" he said exasperatedly, when, yet again, Tommy scratched at his rash.

"Sorry!" he whisper yelled, his voice wobbly, "I need a distraction."

"Ok. Ok. Just focus on my voice then." Techno huffed.

He then started to narrate the scene around them. Twisting the people's actions to make it seem like a story. And it helped Tommy (a lot) until Wilbur had eventually got the aloe vera and come back.

"G-God! You gu-guys vanished fro-from e-existence!" Wilbur huffed, as he flopped next to them.

Techno chuckled and received the bottle of natural balm, and started to treat Tommy's wounds. Much to Tommy's complaint.

"It stings!" he complained, even though he's gone through this situation hundreds of times in his life.

"Yeah! I know! Wilbur knows! The whole shopping center knows!" Techno argued, rushing the application so that it's over quicker for Tommy.

All the response he got was a "hmph".

"W-We should probably go home n-now-w." Wilbur concluded.

Techno agreed and helped Tommy up.

"Unhand me!" he screamed. It's hard to tell if he's joking or actually angry sometimes, but Techno chose it as a joke and giggled a little.

They all drove him pretty quickly, in the darkness of the moon.

"I-I-I hope Phil-l's not mad at us-s," Wilbur pondered, realizing that sneaking Tommy out when he should be at home avoiding sun is a good reason for Phil is become mad.

"Nah," Techno said insightfully.
