chapter two:
"Carmen?" a manly voice called out. She didn't recognise it and decided to keep walking on. It was broad daylight but anything could happen.
"Carmen!" he called out again. "Wait for a second!"
She turned around to be greeted by a brunette guy with blonde highlights in his hair. He was panting from chasing her and all she could think was that he needed to train his stamina.
"Hi," he greeted. "I'm Jasper."
"Hi Jasper?"
"Wait, I didn't tell you why I'm here, did I?" He chuckled and she instantly felt shy. It sounded beautiful.
"No, you did not. What's up?" Carmen said and crossed her arms. She clearly wasn't happy to be running late to her job. Who the hell would ever come up with an excuse of "oh, I met this really cute guy who stopped me and we were talking for a bit."?
"My...our friend, Bryan?" he said and she nodded for him to continue on. "He told me it was your birthday. So... happy birthday!"
"I don't even know you but thanks anyway. I really have to go, Jasper," she said, sounding almost apologetic for leaving him there.
"That's the thing. I was hoping that you and I could go out for a meal or a movie, perhaps?" Jasper grinned.
"Do I have to rephrase what I just said? I don't even know you, Jasper."
"We can get to know each other when we're on a date, Carmen."
"If this is a birthday prank, you can come out now, Bryan!" Carmen said loudly while looking around, waiting for Bryan to pop out for a nearby bush holding a video camera.
"It's not a birthday prank, Carmen. He just told me loads of things about you and I thought... why not get to know the girl on her birthday?"
"One thing is for sure, you have absolutely the worst timing in history. I already told you that I'm late and my boss is probably going to cut my pay because I'm standing here talking to you for literally almost half an hour!" she rambled, completely flustered.
He walked closer to her, closing the gap between both of them. She could see his chocolate brown eyes and it seemed to draw her in more and more. Jasper had this bad boy look to him and she knew better to just stay away from boys like him.
Jasper's heart was beating furiously against his chest. Here he was towering over a girl he was constantly hearing Bryan ramble on and on about how she would always be there for everyone and she didn't judge Bryan when he came out of the closet. She cried because she was happy that Bryan was happy... which Jasper found that it was really cute.
He knew he had this bad boy look but it was just a look. As she stepped away from him, he felt a twist in his gut.
"Here," she said and scribbled down her number on his palm. "You'll be entertained by my voicemail box till seven in the evening. See ya, Jasper!"
His heart somersaulted in the air and of course he had to be cool about it on his exterior side as he saw her running.
"Jasper, you're dumb as fuck," he mumbled to himself as he looked at his bike.
