Deacon was almost out of breath, as Chris hit the accelerator as far as it could go. They left the parking lot in flash, as both patrol cars in the entrance made way. He took off the riffle and vest, placing and buckling the seat belt as fast as he could. The nerves made his hands shake a bit because he just couldn't muster the thought of his little girl hurt in a hospital. What could've happened?
"She's in the hospital?" he asked, still not believing it
"Yeah." she paused, sensing his desperation, "But, she's okay, Deac. You can relax."
He calmed down a bit, as he asked "How do you know?"
"I texted Lila's photo to one of Rubio's docs, just in case she showed up. When I got to the lot, he texted me. Said he saw her get out of a car and rush someone in, seemed the person was unconscious and a young man was carrying the body into the ER. "
"Oh. So, she's alright?" He asked turning to face her, he let out a soft sigh
"According to the doc, yes. He thinks the person might have fainted or overdosed, but the girl that was with the patient was definitely Lila."
"Oh my God! I should call Annie." He said as he looked for the mobile in his pocket
"Yeah, but Deacon-" she said as she had to swivel herself out of a red light. "what happened?"
She had turned on her siren since leaving the parking lot in hopes that could get her through much faster. The hospital was about 45 minutes away, on a good day.
He turned to the window of the car, still trying to remain calm.
"The in-laws don't know what happened. They just know they went to get her and she wasn't in the house."
"Why would she leave like that?"
Deacon shook his head, "I don't know, but maybe if the person was unconscious, she left in a hurry to help out. The doc said there was a young man too?"
"Yeah, the one carrying the patient."
"Must be one of the Carlson's." he said looking out the window.
Chris noticed his left leg kept twitching, as he couldn't sit still. Deacon was definitely worried about something.
"Who are the Carlson's?" she asked, as he glanced over to her
He breathed in, then let it out. "Lily started spending time with this boy, name's William Carlson. Everybody calls him Billy."
Chris was surprised Deacon was so relaxed about the topic, "Wow! You letting her date?"
"Not a date...just spending time. That's all"
Chris giggled, as she sensed jealousy from her teammate.
"Yeah" she said skeptical, shooting a look out of the corner of her eye
"Yes!" he reaffirmed, "She's still my little girl! Told her she's not dating until she's 30!"
"What? Deacon!" the lady officer complained
He chuckled, as he looked down at his hands. The shaking had gone down considerably, as the man now breathed normally.
"You know, Chris?" he started, still looking at his hands, as he touched his wedding ring incessantly, "I still remember holding her in the hospital." he paused, raising his head towards the window and staring outside, "Putting her in the car seat, driving 5 miles per hour" he smirked, "So slow even Annie had to push me to go faster. She was so beautiful, so gentle, so pure. When she was little I remember taking her to eat ice scream. It was our thing, you know?"
