katie

I woke up at 6:00 in the morning to get to my job as early as i could so i could get things ready for the children. some of the kids were only dropped of here for the day. i guess we kind of also run a daycare? not sure how that even started, honestly.

i heard the front doors creek open as a young woman with a little girl walked in. this woman's name is miranda. she always drops off her little girl, lacy, when she is headed off for work. i learned that she is a therapist - i used to go to therapy when i was seven, especially with my mommy problems and i had miranda as my therapist (of course she wasn't pregnant with lacy yet but she was planning to have a baby.) i also saw a familiar face walk through the doors. the familiar face belonged to lucas. i noticed he was wearing sandals with a black tee and skinny jeans with a red flannel over his shirt. i began laughing at his fashion choice - practically falling on the floor - and he stopped himself in his tracks and looked behind him.

"oh my gosh you look ridiculous!" i placed my hand over my mouth as i felt a cramp forming in my stomach from laughing so much.

"wh-what do you mean?" he looked down at himself and pushed out his bottom lip - which by the way was adorable.

"your sandals lucas! never mind it, you look kinda cute i guess with it" kinda? more like a lot. i started walking towards him to greet him with a hug which felt weird because i hardly know him.

"i thought they looked fine though? do they not?" he asked me as he looked down at his feet and wiggled his toes. i shook my head in response and that made his lip push out even more but he slouched his shoulders.

"oh poor thing, you're fine for right now. everyone's gonna notice your cute face not your feet." shit.

"what'd you say?"

"hm?"

"you said i had a cute fa-"

"no, i didn't"

he chuckled at the clumsiness of my words. lucas was one of those human beings that you weren't even able to describe how they looked. i've just found out that he wrinkles his nose when he laughs sometimes and how he taps his two fingers on his thigh when he gets nervous.

"of course you said it i heard you, katie." he sat down at one of the couches that were close to the entrance of the library.

"nope, i don't recall. tea?" i pressed my lips together (i did this when i tried avoiding something i didn't wanna talk about) and tried changing the subject. luke pulled his lanky legs to his chest and hugged them and chuckled at me.

"sure i'll have some." he raised his brows and smirked, trying to play along because he knew i didn't want to talk about how cute he was when he laughed, how i could barely hear his teeth clink against his lip ring when he bit it, or how cute he looked when he started to get a bit awkward so he just folds his hands in front of him.

i just poured him some lemon tea and gave it to him. i sat right next to him and he slowly looked over at me and the corners of his mouth curled. his fingers wrapped around the cup so awkwardly because they were so long. i watched him take a sip and his eyes immediately screwed shut.

"alright so, i take it you don't like flavored tea?" i asked him as he flicked his tongue in and out of his mouth trying to get rid of the taste.

"what was that? lemon?" his accent was incredibly thick when he said lemon.

"yes." i couldn't help but laugh which made him laugh as well. luke set the cup down and scooted it away from him as far as possible.

"i'm not a fan of lemon i guess." he still had the sour face going on and it was cute. he is cute.

luke noticed that i was staring at him, probably a bit longer than i should, and he opened his mouth slightly to say something but paused for a moment like he was questioning whether or not he should say whatever he was trying to say.

"do you want to go somewhere?" his voice cracked and then he got a little anxious. "i mean like after you're done working?"

"of course, that sounds really nice, lucas." i ended up smiling like a fool at him but i didn't care. he got up and nodded his head and he even couldn't stop smiling. i actually saw him trying to keep himself from smiling so much.

"awesome." he whispered to himself. i stood up after he did and he looked down at me for a long moment. finally, when i began to feel uncomfortable, i had to look to the side to break the eye contact.

"i'll see you back here then?"

"yes, yes you will." he gave me a little smirk and began to wave goodbye at me while he headed for the front doors. i stared at the doors until i didn't see luke's presence. today needs to go by fast.
