A/N: My school doesn't have any clubs or activities, so I'm just going off of what I've seen on TV to write this scene. If I botch any details, just let me know.

*Haley's POV*

I wandered around the school gymnasium. Tables were set up everywhere, and there were colorful posters on the walls advertising all of the different activities that people could sign up for.

"Join the Math Team! We've won the Houston City High School Math Olympiad 5 years in a row!" I heard someone shout from the table behind me.

No thanks, I think to myself. I got a C in math last year.

"Show your colors!

Blue and yellow!

We scream loud!

The other team is mellow!

GOOOOOOOO MUSTANGS!" A peppy group of girls chanted behind me.

*cough cough* TACKY *cough cough*, I thought to myself.

I considered my options for a few more minutes. Then, two senior girls approached me. "Hey, what's your name?" The taller, brunette one asked me.

"Haley." I said shyly. Even though these girls were only a year older than me, I still felt very intimidated by them.

"I'm Mackenzie, and this is my friend Anna." The brunette said. Anna had blond hair and bright blue eyes. They seemed nice enough.

"We're co-captains of the dance team. We're looking for new members. Do you have dance experience?" Anna asked.

"I took ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop from when I was 3 until 6th grade. I had to quit because my mom said that my grades needed to improve." I laughed.

"How many hours a week did you train?" Mackenzie asked.

"Like, 5 or 6." I said.

"OMG, that's insane! Tryouts are today after school. Do you want to come?" Anna said, holding out a sign up sheet. "We get to perform a lot. Not to mention, it's really fun!

I remembered how much I used to love dance as a kid. I also remembered the deal with my mom.

"Sure." I said, and I put my name down.
