TO LEAP OR NOT TO LEAP

Seems like I'm getting a hang of this poetry stuff.😇
The first draft of what you're about to read, initially a response to a poetry prompt #TAOR, was far shorter and rough. I polished it this morning and wanted to share it with you. Enjoy. 🤗

I look behind.
I see thick darkness.
I see my fears and foes, Snarling and ready to bite,
Waiting to see me hesitate one second.

I look downward,
A great chasm,
A bottomless hole,
With no end to it's dark depths.

This is going to be one hell of a jump,
It's no pretence.
I'm scared out of my brains.

Taking that first tentative step,
Not a bold one,
Not a sure one either.
The stones crumble under my feet,
They pelt down into the hole.

A wave of uncertainty strikes.
Can I do this?
Am I going nuts?
Is it worth it?
Maybe I should just manage the way it has always been.

I look over the barrier,
Light, freedom, peace,
And a beautiful prince waiting for me,
Smiling, beckoning.

I close my eyes and make a resolve.
Don't think,
Don't breathe,
Just do it.

Who knows, you might make it,
Or not.

At least you'll be able to say,
I tried.
I didn't allow the fear to cage me.
It's now or never.

I bound back for momentum.
I run forward.
I leap.

I feel my body propelling forward,
The wind glides through my hair,
There is something unusual happening.

My eyes peek open and I see him.
The prince.
I see his name engraved on his back—Peace.

He has graceful, immaculate wings.
And I am flying on his back.

Tell me, have you ever felt that way?
Caged, bound, hopeless?🥺 The Prince of Peace is beckoning on you on the other side. Just take that step of faith towards you and he'll help you through.

Don't forget to vote, comment and share. 😁
