chapter 1:
'Miya! Miya! OI! Come on if you don't hurry, he'll have left by the time you're ready!' Elime nagging me, as usual. She used to be my mother's maid, back before my father died. After that, there was no way we could afford to keep paying her so she was told that she should find a new job, but she would not. she simply insisted that 'a promise is a promise and i promised to help you and Abat no matter what happened, I would be there to cook, clean and support you if you needed it. Nothing has changed. Nothing.' she always insisted that she did not need the money anyway, but we all know it a lie. Her husband, Evan, earns a fair salary journeying into the forest to collect the firewood and other supplies that can only be found there, as we all know that the forest of Clage is one of the most dangerous places in the kingdom. It lies on the boundary between the slither of land occupied by the rebels and the kingdom of Nulle. this means that anyone brave enough to forage around there is often well paid, but most of these foragers throw all their earnings into getting drunk on days off, and Evan is no different, so Elime's family is still one of the poorest in the whole of Kamune village.
I trailed out of my bed chamber. Elime had laid out the singularly most flattering dress she could find. This worried me. 'Elime? Who’s coming over for dinner again' i enquired. At that, she shot me a look of utter despair. 'I just want to check...seriously! It’s only Guyar...isn't it?'
She sighed loudly then chose to reply to my enquiry. 'Yes LORD Guyar is coming over for dinner....’
'And no-one else?' i prompted.
'no.' she replied shortly.
But then, why did she put out my best dress? Why now was she combing my hair thoroughly and braiding it so precisely, when she normally would make a general comment about my careless attire and smoothly hint that i should probably comb my hair before seeing the guest. 'Then why...' i trailed off. At my question, Elime blushed slightly. Or did she? 'Do you know?'
She cleared her throat, but when she spoke her voice was still hoarse. 'On his last visit, he...he told your mother that he wished to make a proposition upon his next visit.' now it was my turn to go red. Red is an understatement i am sure i would have matched and easily surpassed the colour on my mother's garnet pendant at that moment. THAT...i was not expecting.
'Do you mean...' now my voice was hoarse and trembling.
'Miya!' my mother! 'Come on, our guest has arrived.'
ahh...this is going to be interesting...
'Okay mother, I'm on my way!' I bellowed before turning to Elime and whispering 'bugger...'
Okay, so after the...confusion at the start, the huge amount of extreme embarrasment during dinner then a slow realisation, eventually I was laughing with Hane (Guyar) about Elime and my mother's slight misunderstanding about the nature of his 'proposition' I suppose now your probably wondering what happened, so I shall cut to the chase. Guyar's nephew is arriving from the city in the next few days, but everyone will be expecting him to turn up at the Guyar house hold and he would be no safer there than in the city, so Hane asked if Tommi could arrive and stay there until the trouble had passed. Of course this was no problem as far as my mother was concerned but Elime obviously had slight reserves for how I would react to a boy in the household, but this is not something i am at all prepared to talk to her about.
At first, i was slightly surprised that my mother accepted his proposal, as hane made it sound extremely dangerous (to me anyway) and we know nothing about this Tommi. In fact, I believe that Hane knows only a little more than we do, as he has only seen him twice in the last three years.
Am I seriously the only one even slightly disturbed by the news that a complete stranger is going to be living in our house?! (except Elime who is only worried for other reasons) Something just feels wrong but i am not entirely sure what. Oh well, surely we shall be finding out in the next couple of days. Until then we can only hope that nothing bad will come of his stay...
