In A World Where Something Exists
Layol reached the atmosphere of his world and could tell something was different. As he drew closer, he noticed color forming on the ground, the snow has stopped falling but is still visible, the ice has begun to melt, and the darkness is gone. When he landed in the place where his village was the people came to greet him. Layol transformed back into his original form, and realized his people looked different. Shocked Layol stood there in a daze not sure how to react and even more unsure of what was happening. From among the crowd the not so much frozen ones appeared before him.
"Cool one, no, I mean Layol," said a frozen one.
"How do you know my name?"
"The voices from the golden orb told us. Since the temperature of the golden orb dropped its rotation has slowed down. It has been taking longer for the golden orb to appear and disappear from our once frozen world's view like it had before. Soon the ice on this frozen world began to thaw and the snow began to melt. Change came to our no longer frozen world color appeared everywhere and it is beautiful." Said another frozen one.
"We are sorry Layol for everything we have put you through. It was never our intention to cause you such stress. We truly believed that the orb would be the end of us. That by letting it influence us we would lose the community we built and the lives we have created as a family and in a way it has. As you can see, we and this world have started to change the way we lived before can no longer be maintained, but that doesn't mean that our lives are less connected, we are still a family and now our family can grow and it's thanks to you and Treah." The last frozen one said.
"We are in agreement." Voices came from the golden orb.
"You again?" the boy looked up in confusion.
"We witnessed your bravery and the willingness to sacrifice yourself for our Empress and our world. We misjudged you and your influence on her. Though she sleeps now she still lives, and we thank you for that. We spread the knowledge of the love you two share to your people, and they realized your words rang true."
"My Words?"
"Yes Layol." Layol's mother stood before him and embraced him gently. "We could hear your discussion with our leaders. You said that more than chaos and destruction, change and differences are rebirth and unity. We can be the same in our differences."
"You heard all of that?" Layol blushed in embarrassment.
"We did dear." Layol's mother released him. Layol looked around and everyone nodded their heads in agreement. Speechless Layol was on the verge of tears. This is the first time in a long time he felt connected to his people, to his family. He deeply regrated how his views caused him to treat them. He distanced himself and told himself he felt nothing for this world even though that is not how his people felt about him. They were scared and they were worried about him just like he worried about Treah when he thought he was going to lose her forever. He finally understood how they felt.
"I'm so sorry. I almost destroyed everything, but I never meant to hurt any of you," Layol did his best to fight back his tears. "I was awful to you cold one. All you did was try to protect me but all I could do was think about myself. I'm so sorry can you ever forgive me?" Layol hugged his mother with such force he almost knocked her over. She hugged him back with almost as much intensity.
"My dear cool one, no, my son. Don't you know? We are family you are already forgiven. We just hope you can forgive us for making you feel alone for so long." Lysol loosened his grip and touched his forehead to his mothers.
"I forgive you." Laysol said with a smile on his face, tears lightly flowing from his eyes.
"Family?" The voices from the golden orb said curiously. "We kept the Empress isolated thinking this was the best way to maintain her life, but perhaps we were misguided. In our efforts to protect her we robbed her of what it truly means to be happy. Layol. We know we do not have the right, but we implore you for a favor."
"Yes." Layol let go of his mother and looked up at the sky.
"It has come to our attention that we are no longer capable of protecting our Empress' life on our own. If you are willing, will you and your people help us in our mission by providing our Empress with a family? We realize that even if she feels sadness, it does not have to be the end of her. With people to love by her side she can learn to endure and perhaps the strength of her spirit can grow."
Layol knew what his answer was, but he turned to his people and his leaders for their say on the matter. The once frozen ones removed their symbols of power and placed them on Layol, signifying their relinquish of authority.
"We as the former frozen ones have now recognized Layol as the sole leader of our people and will do as he deems best hence forward." All the frozen ones spoke in unison. Then all the people bowed before their new leader. Layol could hardly believe it. Instantly he almost refused but held his tongue. He thought it over and decided to accept this new position.
"I am honored and will accept on one condition. That our former leaders serve as counsel along with our new friends from the golden orb. If you agree to this not only, do I promise to lead our people faithfully, but I will also take Treah as my wife and stay by her side forever. We will be a family from here on out."
The people, the former leaders and the voices agreed. Layol lead his people out of the darkness and guided them down the road of light, of opportunity and of love. He still waits patiently to this day for Treah to wake up, but he has not given up hope. He takes moments out of his day to talk to Treah and let her know of all the new and wonderful things that await her. With the knowledge of the voices from the golden orb the people have grown in skill, in magic, and in technology. Their world has birthed new life and now they share their land with new creatures, new plants, and a new way of living. A life different from their former but just as unified. A world filled with differences and similarities, a world were something exits. No, more than that, we don't just exist. This is a world where we thrive.
