(Warning, gore and blood ahead.)

(Note: Being knocked does not exist in this apex universe, sorry)

A young boy, with bushy eyebrows and celery green eyes, stares at me. About 15 feet away, he's unsure what to do. I stay almost as still as him until Min barks, bringing me back to reality. In one swift movement, I unhook the sling holding Min to me. He bursts from the sling, like water bursting from a broken pipe. He lunges at the boy, who still hasn't moved.

It seems to take ages for Min to reach him, but when he does, he leaps on the boy, biting at his neck and face. The boy screams and pulls his hands up to protect himself. I draw my sword, and sprint forward. The blade goes in easy, and sinks deeper than I intended. I feel something wet hit my face. The light leaves the boy's eyes and he falls backwards as I pull the sword back. Min stands next to me, panting.

"First blood." I hear the announcer say.

First blood and it was because of me. I look at the sword in my hand, it's blade covered in fresh blood. I take a deep breath before quickly wiping the blade and putting it back in it's sheath. I sprint past the dead boy's body, and into the cage's main building. I hear gunshots up top. And hear Joey over comms.

"Firing! There's 2 of them!"

I grab the floor loot, a Wingman and it's ammo, before taking the zipline outside all the way up. I burst inside. 2 people are taking shots at Joey. One notices me and takes aim. I slide quickly before shooting him thrice in the head, killing him. Causing his blood to splatter on the wall behind him. His teammate, distracted by my presence, turns. Rose appears on the deck and fires her R-99 at him. Dead.

Joey quickly shields up. "Where's the last one?"

"Dead." I answer. "I killed him outside."

Rose looks a little shocked, almost sad. "This feels terrible."

I reach over and touch her shoulder. "It'll be ok. But we need to move, NOW. Someone might've landed nearby, we don't want to be next."

Nodding, Joey takes the lead. We follow him out of cage and make our way to Capacitor, looting as we go. Min sprints ahead by a bit, sniffing for enemies, but is either unable to, or there's no people nearby. We make it to Capacitor without much trouble. We run into one of the buildings and start looting. I check my watch. We're in the circle, and, with luck, might be in the next one too. I have a Wingman and an R-99, which I swap for an R-301.

Then, Min makes a small noise, and turns toward the door. I aim at it, and shoot when they walked through it, hitting them square in the face. They had no time to react. I slide over and peak out the window. Their teammates are either dead or far away, because I see nothing, and Min's not picking up anything. I bent over the body. It was a girl, with long blonde hair, braided down her back.

Such a shame someone like her had to die, I think, as I take her ammo.

Joey and Rose come rushing into the building.

"We heard shots. You ok?"

I nod. "Yeah."

Joey sighs. "Listen kid, you gotta use your comms. We were worried."

"Sorry. It's habit. I'll do better next time."

Ring closing, my watch vibrates. I check. We're in the next ring. 2 more closings until the ring closes completely, and there's 9 teams left. My team looks at each other. And right then and there, we made a promise: That we'd get out of this alive, no matter what.
